I saved mostly everything from my 3 kids, who are now 23, 21, and 18. Everything is safely stored in the attic.
My reason for this was I wanted to have a Play room for my grandkids some day. We have GI Joe toys, Starwars, Barbies, Barbie's townhouse, babydolls, cabbage patch dolls, American Girl Dolls, Care Bears, Duplo and Legos, and all of my childrens books.
Whenever I took my kids to stay at their grandparent's for the Holidays, they always complained that there were no toys there.
I made up my mind way back then to do this.

Anyone else save their kids toys?

They still have most of it. What they don't play with, I have younger kids over all the time that do.
I could get rid of lots of stuff in the playroom if I got rid of everything they didn't play with. lol

I have my ds's Tickle Me Elmo in his baby trunk.:) I don't remember seeing any of my dd's old toys in her baby trunk, but she rummages through that thing on a monthly basis. If I put something in there, she's taken it out.

Our kids are still little, but my mom and dad saved our toys! It is fun to see all those old toys. Especially the sentimental part, when they pull something out for the kids to play with, I often say..."I remember playing with that!" THe only word of caution is that some toys aren't deemed "safe" anymore. Like the original little people are a choking hazzard. We still played with them, but watched the kids pretty closely. You are doing a wonderful thing, and your grandkids AND your kids will appreciate it!

I saved older DS's rocking horse and younger DS's Brio trains. Younger DS never got rid of any of his stuffed animals (he also has boxes of trophies packed away!) Those are the only things that we made a point to save.

I am the same as PrincessVija...Our kids are still young, but I actually have alot of toys that I have saved over the years from when I was young...I have loads of Strawberry Shortcake dolls and accessories, Barbies, easy bake oven, Rubix Cubes and alot of books like Judy Blume, Beverly Cleary and Sweet Valley High! I have them all in storage, except for the Strawberry Shortcake, which is proudly displayed in one of my curios! :)

I gave all the baby toys to cousins but did save all the Jurasic Park toys they spent years playing with daily. They probably still would if I got them out.

I also have a huge supply of legos. We spent a lot of money on those kits. Another big toy at our house. ;)

OH my yes,,,,I have EVERYTHING LOL,,,,my son is 20 now!!!!

I have all the POWER Rangers,,every color every size ,the walking, talking ones,..EVERY HAPPY MEAL TOY ever made from years 3-8 (LOL), Legos, marbles, and we will NOT get into the match box cars (boxes full) rocking horse, first trike, first scooter (BIG WHEELS not the small kind) (man I hope our attic doesnt come through the roof LOLOL) these will be fun to get out when his children come along--hope ones a BOY LOL!!!

This is absurd but I have saved every happy meal toy my kids ever got. We have a ton of them. When I see just how many, it looks like I never cooked them a meal. We don't go there any more so the adding to has ended.

I've also saved a lot of their classic toys like Leggos, wooden blocks, doll houses and furniture, barbies, etc. I'm trying to keep it managable but it's difficult when you only have a little space. Rubbermaid tubs are the greatest things!

I think it is a good idea. My parents alwasy had toys around for the kids, but inlaws didn't. We always had to bring toys along when we visited there!

I plan on saving the toys that are classics....popcorn popper, legos, barbies, etc...

It is the same for our family...especially videos. My parents are always buying for the girls and other grand kids. We take videos and toys to our in-laws. Our in-laws to have some toys, but many are missing pieces so they are difficult to play with.

I didn't save their baby toys, but there is no way I'm throwing out the Brio trains, Legos or K'nex - we just have too much money invested in them! I did get rid of all the Power Rangers, Barney and Sesame Street stuffed toys. But then there are some books I just can't bear to part with, like Goodnight Moon and Follow the Monsters. I can still remember it: Follow the monsters wherever they go, sometimes they're fast, sometimes they're slow.....

ah, the good old days. Now it's Nintendo this and Nintendo that. By the way, we took their old Nintendo and left it at my parents' house so they'll have something to play when we visit.

My Mom saved everything and my kids now have a blast at her house. Barbie's, matchbox cars, fisher price, star wars, etc. Funny we went to see Santa Clause 2 this past weekend and that faculty party was like Christmas morning when I was a kid. Mom still has all those toys and most are still have boxes.

Tucked away in various spots around the house are legos, My Little Ponies, He-Man figures, Hot Wheels, Care Bears, Happy Meal toys, trolls, Barbies, you name it, I probably saved it. I did give some toys to my cousins for their kids. I just couldn't save it all.

The funny thing is, I have my own Barbie and Ken, as well as a few dolls from my childhood. Did I ever let my girls play with them? Of course not!;) ;) ;)

My kids are 10, 8, 6 and I find it SO hard to part with anything! I will absolutely save Barbies, books, anything DISNEY, etc. My dh always asks when we're cleaning out the toy room and I say what difference does it make, it's only going to the basement.

I still have my old Barbies and would've saved more stuff, but we always lived in condos or apts so not much storage.

Here's a cool link for those who love Rubbermaid. I love to buy plastic...lol.
