Did You Remember?

Did you remember that Saturday was the 3rd anniversary?

Did you take a moment out of your day and bow your head and pray for those who died and for those they left behind?

Did your community remember?

Did you notice any TV or radio stations taking just 30 seconds out of their overpaid budgets for that moment of silence, to show respect?

(If applicable) Did you remember to lower your flag to half mast?

Did you remember to hold your loved ones (friends, family and even your pets) near to you?

I did. And I cried as I remembered.

We had our flag at our home at half mast, and our flag in front of our business is put out by the Lions Club for every national holiday.
My store window is decorated with yellow ribbons and
"God Bless America" & "We Will ALWAYS Remember" decor.

Today, I had lunch with my mother and her best friend and sister, and we bowed our heads, held hands and prayed for those who lost their lives,their families & loved ones, those who serve and protect our great nation, and strength, guidance, and protection for all!
There were tears, as my friend's son is in the armed forces.

I wore my favorite patriotic sweater and noticed that many had on their flag pins, ties, scarves.....
And many other businesses and homes in our town had their flags and ribbons displayed.

Since we have a VA hospital in our area, which my best friend serves as the Head Administator, they had a sunrise service in rememberance of 9-11. ( My DS attended this with her and her son, as he had spent the night with them.)
DS was very moved by the ceremony and talked about it tonight.
I told him this will be something he will tell his children and grandchildren about.

We will NEVER forget.

Yes, we get together with some of my dh's Pentagon friends to remember, reflect, and catch up as most of this group have moved to other jobs and don't see each other very often. We (our family) all wear our "Freedom will be defended" flag shirts. Additionally, I know I must've watched at least 6 tributes to those lost on 9/11. They always move me to tears but I cannot not watch. My favorite is the one with Enya's In Time. I love that song.

I know several churches in my community offered prayer services today.

As I have for the last three years, I sort of get thru the day almost holding my breath. I know it's crazy to think another attack would happen on the same date but it's always just below my conscious-level in the back of my mind.

Yep. I remembered, even over here. It kinda hung with me all day. Now I know what Memorial Day is all about...in a different sort of way.

We went to a blues festival. I pointed to the sign and asked
DS to tell me what day it was. He read it, got this sad look on
his face and then we began talking about it again. He had all
sorts of questions. It was very interesting as three years ago,
all he wanted to know was about the airplanes-he was six.
Now he was really interested in the people, the ones who did
it, the ones who died, the ones who survived. He asked about
numbers and families and firefighters. We talked for an hour
or more. It was a good talk.

Yes, we remembered. We went to Mass and there were special prayer intentions for those who lost their lives from Sept. 11th and those families who have been impacted from this tragic day.

I noticed many people wearing patriotic clothing, pins, etc.

Living near Dulles airport where one of the planes that crashed originated and living down the street from families who lost loved ones on the planes, at the pentagon, etc., it is hard not to remember.

I did. At work, I told each and every customer to have a "Happy Patriot's Day" and was slammed by a co-worker for saying it.

"Would you say the same thing if it had been one of our own that had wrecked those planes?" he asked and I told him probably not but it wasn't our own people that did this. It was the followers of Bin Laden who hated us so much for reasons I still do not understand.

We watched "9/11:A Tale of Two Towers" on PBS last night. I looked at DS and then at DH and said "What on earth do we tell him in 10 years when he's learning about this day in school? How do we explain why this happened to us?". DH didn't know. Neither do I.

I remembered. I was in school comming out of German class. I had just walked into the Student Union and saw the tv. Shortly afterwards the schools president cancelled classes and we had a school wide meeting in the Main Stage theater (I went to a small performing arts college).

You bet I remembered.
Our flag can't be put to half mast, but it was displayed. There were flags all over our town and a memorial at the traffic circle to remember those that died. My car displays a Support our Troops magnet, and an American flag window cling.
I didn't wear my patriotic clothes that I had been planning on, because I stayed in my pajamas all day. To tell you the truth it was tough getting out of bed yesterday.
Our radio and TV stations were spending more time talking about how we all need to get over this than taking a moment to remember
I pretty much just stayed inside yesterday. Never left the house, just sat around, alone, watching the tributes, surfing the internet, and pausing occasionally to cry.
In my town, it's hard to forget. Lots of people were affected.

Living here in NYC, you can't help but remember. It is a day I will NEVER forget. Lisa and I walked out to the river and spent some time quietly watching the Tribute in Light.

Many prayers were said and it was a somber day all around here in NYC.

We started remembering in July, when my DH started planning his KofC memorial mass with the color guard. There where 16 color guard at the 5:15 mass yesterday. I didn't go because my DS would not have been able to stay for a long service and I would have cried my eyes out the whole time. But DS said it was wonderful.

Hmmm. To be honest, I didn't see the flags at half mast, but I made sure mine was out on 9/11 (flag doesn't adjust to half mast).

DD6 soccer, no moment of silence, but flyover of F16s on their way to a festival. Two planes did a little roll for the spectators.

DW went to the Ohio State game yesterday and said the halftime performance was dedicated to the victims of 9/11 and had a giant statue of liberty during their show.

Yes, I will never forget, and 9/11 will be a day of self reflection.

Yes, even as I was running around kids around to soccer games yesterday, I reflected on it. Yesterday, was a beautiful day here, not a cloud in the sky just as it was that same day three years ago. I will never forget.

To be honest, I did not really leave the house enough yesterday to notice if there were flags at half mast, but ours was and we spent a good part of the day watching the tributes on tv and online.

I am truly lucky to have the people (and animals, Monty Dog) in my life that I do. I made sure I called family, and told those I love that I do.
