Did you own a CB radio?

Something I posted on another thread got me to thinking about the CB radio craze of the 70's. We got one in 1977 and I can remember that so many people had them that it could be hard to get a "break". it must have really annoyed the truckers for the few years the public at large used these.

Did you have (or do you still have) a CB radio?

Did we? We STILL do. One in my car and one in my husband's. I can't tell you how many times it's gotten us out of traffic jams up and down I-95. It's invaluable to know where the big back-ups are and most truckers are more than willing to give directions to local routes around the traffic jams.

It's also nice to know where the state troopers are when you're buzzing on down the road;)

I love our CB's!

Yep, What's your 20 and what's your handle.

Back in those days, my handle was "The Bullfrog". I haven't thought about that in a loooong time.

My handle was "Sweet- n- Low". My DH (DBF at the time) started calling me that on the CB and it just stuck!:p

I think we might have one in the attic someplace.

I had one!

My handle was "Lemondrop"... I drove a yellow VW beetle! I grew up around trucks, and always knew I could probably find someone who drove for the company my dad worked for on the road if I had trouble...

I wonder where that thing went? I may still have it packed up around here somewhere!

We had them in the 60's. By the mid 70's we got rid of them. Too crowded. We didn't have them as a hobby. We had them to communicate and by the mid 70's that was impossible.

I wanted to get a ham radio license and couldn't get past the electrical part of the quiz :( which I think is so stupid. I don't want to build one...

Is an external car antenna still required for proper reception/transmission or have the manufacturers integrated that into the units?

We had one when I was a kid. I remember riding in my dad's silver Bonneville down 95 to WDW! Our family handle was "Silver Streak."

Have one here, but not in the car..."She Devil", the handle had to do with the Tasmanian Devil's girlfriend.

That thing got lots of use, especially on the 60 mile commute to work before the days of cell phones!

I remember talking to my mom on cb while my dad drove us to school. My handle was "school girl" my sister was "dancing girl"
mom was bubbles and dad was dynapower.

DH still has one in his pickup. He travels over 35,000 miles a year for work (which is NOTHING compared to what professional truck drivers travel!) and the CB is a very valuable tool for obtaining weather, traffic, and road conditions.:D

My Dad was really into the CB. He had one in his truck (still does) and he had a powerful one in our dining room. It had a huge antenna on the side of the house. I remember being in my bedroom sometimes watching tv and his CB breaking through. I hated it then, now I look back and laugh.
