Did You Know.....

Did you know the platypus is a mammal but lays eggs.

As is the echidna. They are called monotremes and are the only species of their kind, although there is evidence that they were once far more widespread.

I had forgotten about the echidna.

Some of them fuse together before adulthood - that's about all I know about it, and it may not even be correct.

ETA: The bones - not the children lol.

I think some multiples join together and become one.

As awful as that sounds some multiples do fuse together, kind of: one may die and then they get absorbed by the other, it's called vanishing twin syndrome. It was one of my (many) worries when pregnant with my twins.

OK, enough!! Now not only do I need to know why this happens, I also need statistics on how common it is thought to be :surfweb:...yawn - I hope tomorrow is a slow day at work so I can nap at my desk.

Contrary to a popular southern tall tale, the granddaddy long legs (Opilionids) is not the most venomous spider in the world. It isn't even a spider, and it doesn't even have venom glands.

However it's look alike, the cellar spider (Pholcidae), is a spider, does have venom glands, and can bite a human, but their venom does not have an adverse effect on a human.

So if you ever hear someone telling you that the granddaddy long legs is the most venomous spider in the world, one bite could kill a human, but their fangs are too small to bite a human... you can now inform them that they are incorrect
