And possibly going to online sales only? I'm on my tablet so I can't give the link to the news. The store closing list was supposed to be released end of March. They are reporting loss of sales.

The only things I buy there are hoop 14 K gold earings and Timex watches. I also only buy these when I loose or break what I have or for watches when batteries die (I have had bad luck with battery replacement and how long they last, so have been getting a new watch when that happens.) I like their Addias men's socks and men's wallets too.

My mom love Kohls, but I'm not a huge fan myself. They are the best place I have found, though, to get the two items above and I see to be getting one or the other every year and a 1/2 or so.

I shop occasionally at one of the stores that is closing. It's pretty quiet there, I'm not surprised it's closing. There are plenty of others in the area to shop at.

18 stores is a drop in the bucket for Kohl's - less than 2% of their stores. It's normal for chains to close under-performing stores.

I figured we would be on the list, but we weren't. So far this year we have lost our Target and Joanne Fabrics and it's only April.

YIKES!!! What a bummer - I've never even heard of a Target closing. Hopefully you won't lose anymore of your local shopping options.

They closed 13 Targets at the end of January this year. I hate it so much.

Kohl's lost my business several years ago when they doubled their prices overnight then posted 40% off "sales" like it was a big savings. We now only shop there when we receive a gift card. We were really bummed when we asked and couldn't use the gift card to purchase a different gift card.

Doesn't surprise me with h all the California stores. Kohl's head quarters is just down the road from where I live and I know a few people that work there. They all said California was one of the last areas that they opened stores, and it was a tough state to find their niche with. The people in Brown Deere, WI, they can go 3 different directions and find a Kohl's within 5 miles.

That is so weird about the prices - they have been pretty consistent in our area. I mean, prices have gone up a little as the economy has gotten better, but I still get amazing deals.

Many of the brick and mortar stores are getting decimated by Amazon.
My husband works at the local target (which is the only store in our mall with any business traffic) and they had this big thing a few years ago about competing with amazon.

some of the things they did then made sense. Like starting to carry fresh groceries. Some of things made no sense at all. Like offering free wifi in the stores, since now it doesn't even cost me any data to check if I can get that thing on Amazon cheaper.

I find Kohl's incredibly frustrating. Their prices are super high unless they are on sale and then you have to be there at the right time and hope for a 30% off coupon.

Some of us don't have time for games. Give me a good low price to start, maybe advertise sales every now and then, and let me get on with my life.

JC Penney under the leadership of Ron Johnson TRIED to do that. The customers absolutely *revolted* over the "fair and square" pricing. I, for one, loved it. My MIL hated it. Like you, I am not always able to schedule my shopping based on the store's sales.

(And in all honesty, I loved all the changes he made. I actually started shopping at JCP. Since they've reverted back, not so much.)

There are too many kohl's to begin with. They are all over the place near me.

I don't shop there often, usually to just exchange things that family gifted my children that didn't fit or what not. Or if buying a gift from a registry.

I find the amount of product plus signage irritating.

And to piggyback, shopping in person at the mall is horrible with all of the questions you get while checking out. Makes me wonder what they are thinking practically driving customers away and online.

Especially VS, my goodness the amount those poor workers are forced to say. "Did you have a Fantastic shopping experience? " How contrived when you can over hear all five workers asking each customer the exact phrases verbatim. The CEOs et al must think the average customer is dumb!

I know I won't be back. I would much rather buy online provided there is free shipping or from a place like Target that does not badger you. Except for the Red Card if you don't already have one.

Exactly! More than once I was checking out at Penney's and remembered a $10 coupon sitting on my counter at home. It was so frustrating and I loved the new pricing system. But as you said, customers revolted and our local Penney's actually closed. It a small town like mine (40,000 pop.) it was a big loss.

If Kohl's goes too it would be devastating.
