I had to call
DVC Member Services to succeed at registering.
The first time that I tried, I filled in the whole form and clicked the button to register, and it just came back with the exact same screen -- no error messages at all. Member Services told me that it does not like the long zipcodes, and sure enough that solved problem number 1, and I did reach a new screen after that.
The new screen said that my requested ID was already taken (which I think may be a bug, since I have not used the ID that I entered for any other Disney site and it is unlikely to be duplicated -- so I think it posted the ID on the failed attempts and then would not let me register it).
So I tried another ID. This time it came back saying that the ID was invalid, though it did not say how it was invalid. So I reread the text about the ID, and there is no help there to tell you what is or is not a valid ID. The Member Services rep said that any characters were acceptable, including hyphens. So how it was invalid was a complete mystery. I tried several other IDs -- all with the same "invalid" error message.
Finally one ID was accepted, though I have no idea why it was valid and the others were not.
Once I was in, I realized that I had made a typo in that ID, and so I attempted to change one letter to a different letter, by using the profile change feature. But the same "invalid" message came up there.
The whole thing is poorly done -- probably forced to meet a deadline at the expense of quality control. It does not bode well for the quality of the site in the future.
And then, once I saw the new web site, my reaction was "so what?" But that's
another poll.
