Having a waitlist replace a portion of an existing reservation

Does anyone have any newer insight to the above? I have a week scheduled but was looking at waitlisting another resort for 3 of the 7 nights. Has this messed up for people? Has this been accomplished before?

Unfortunately, you cannot have a WL replace part of a reservation and leave the remaining part intact - it’s all or nothing. So if you place that 3-night WL, do NOT set it to replace the 7-night reservation unless you want to give up all 7 nights. If the WL does come through, you could modify the 7 nights down to the four you want to keep - but if you do that less than 31 days from checkin, those points will go into holding.

The recommendation remains - if you hope for a split stay, book it like that at your home resort to start with, then if a WL is needed at 7 months, you can set it to replace that segment.

You sent contact MS to add a note to the waitlist telling them you only want to replace the same nights and leave the rest intact

You can not set it up that way online. Just keep a record of the date and time you call so that if an issue happens, they can go back and review the phone call.

The other option is to send MS an email with specific instructions and ask for an email confirmation back that it is set up to replace partial dates.

We frequently do split stays so at 11 months, I book our stay at our home resort in segments. I usually book a 7-night stay in blocks of 3 nights and 4 nights. That way, at the 7 month window, I can switch any or all of it and I can waitlist part of it too. Once a stay is booked, it cannot be broken up later unless the availability is still there.

The TLDR version is you do not want to waitlist for a portion of a reservation. You risk losing the entire reservation because MS will replace the current reservation with the waitlist.
