Did you ever hear this that black dogs are put down more

I have never heard this before, we're in the south and here is a pic of the pup we picked from our local shelter last May when we were looking to adopt.

He stood out to us because he was the only black pup in his litter - the others were all yellow. We feel in love immediately and we know we made the right choice. He is HUGE now and he is the sweetest, gentlest and most loving dog ever!!!:cloud9:

I have heard this but not that its a Southern thing, but in general black animals are harder to adopt out.

As someone said, "The big black scarey dog syndrome" :sad2:

I had heard that about cats, but it was a nation wide thing and not just the south. Hadn't heard that black dogs are harder to adopt though, that's a new one. My Missy is a black coated dog and I'll I ever hear from people when I walk her is how beautiful she is, and I can tell they mean it and aren't just being nice!

OMGoodness, this looks just like my dog Sadie! What is Missy? We got Sadie from a rescue, don't know what she is, but we like to say she is a Flat Coated Retriever! But in reality, she is probably a lab/spaniel mix. Missy has that same sweet expression that my Sadie has.

Omigosh, that is the cutest little puppy!

And again I get sucked into a puppy picture thread! :sad2:

What is wrong with me? I am too soft. I must not look at puppies...I must...

Yes I have heard the same thing as well. We adopted a little back puppy about a year ago, they said she is a dachshund mix but she looks like a mini lab. She weighs about 30 pounds and is ADORABLE!

My DH grew up in inner city Detroit, where it was very common for home invasions. His parents always had blonde dogs and were broken into at least once a year. They decided to go the black dog route when DH was a young boy on the advice of the neighbors...apparently black dogs are soooo much scarier than light colored ones that it cuts down on break ins.

They never had their home broken into again as long as they had black dogs (and the neighborhood continued to deteriorate, so it wasn't that the environment improved).
