Did you ever get detention in school?

I was on my way out. I had gone to the bathroom, washed my hands and was on my way out.

Let that be a lesson to ya. Never wash your hands before leaving. ;)

I was in the girls bathroom when some girls were swinging on the bar above one of the stalls.

I don't know you old you are, Donna, but I am willing to make a wager that in the late 70's, early 80's a good percentage of detentions were handed out for stuff that happened in the girls bathroom. That was virtually THE place to hang out if you felt like stirring up a little trouble...... :p

LOL @ these. And TC, I never got a paddling either. I remember one teacher had this big wooden paddle and he had drilled holes in it too, so it would hurt more! Could you imagine that today?

I'm not saying I didn't deserve detentions or paddlings. I just never got caught :smooth:

Yes, I've had my fair share of detentions. For different reason's, not getting dressed for gym, talking in class, singing in class (once), latenesses - you know the usual stuff. :smooth:

Never...I never even got kept after school in grammer school. I would have been killed, and no way was I going to see what my parents had in store for me. I am still square...a geek...sweet and innocent sound better though :)

dozens of detentions, a few in school suspensions and regular suspensions, two PINS against me. My poor mother

This would have been early 70's. I think I was 3rd grade so something like 1972 or 1973.

I was such a goody-goody I would have cried if I ever got in trouble at school, but my ds is making up for all the trouble I never got into!

I used to do that too :D It was in the late 70's. I forgot all about it until now. We would pretend we were gymnasts:teeth:

I have to say I got my share of detentions. Some of the ones that stick out are getting caught smoking a funny cigarette, whistling at a boy (I went to an all girl's Catholic school and seeing boys during the day was a rarity, so I couldn't help myself), smoking a regular cigarette on the city bus (again, since I went to a Catholic school, as long as you had the uniform on, you still had to abide by the rules even if you were out of school and of course someone that knew me ratted me out) and for those Britney Spears fans out there, I got detention for wearing my uniform the way she wore hers in that first video and since I'm 35 I did it a lot sooner than she did:D There are some others, but they are sort of a blur now.

I got detention twice and for the STUPIDEST reasons! I went to an Catholic HS and in my Freshman year, I got detention for not having my CHAPEL VEIL for my head for Mass!

Then, I got detention because my uniform was TOO SHORT! To measure for the length, the nuns would make the girls kneel in the hallway and if your uniform did NOT touch the floor, it was too short!

Well, mine was at the end of the hem (at the seam binding) and no more to let out! My parents couldn't afford a new uniform because I was growing taller (it fit otherwise) but the nuns wouldn't hear of it.

My Dad called the school and really laid into them and I never had another uniform problem.;)

*sigh*

All the time

Usual offenses:
-fighting
-mouthing off
-forgetting homework
-tardiness
-absenses

and in one particularly silly incident I got suspended for bringing my desk set (for art class) that contained a plastic letter opener which they deemed as a "weapon".

Yet somehow when I got to college I made the dean's list the first semester I got there. Go fig. *shrug*

Ummm, I got paddled in 4th grade.
In highschool I worked in the office of the vice principal, soooo, even when I did something wrong like cutting class, they thought I was doing something for him. I got by with a lot. lol

I didn't smoke, do drugs, or anything like that though. Or not that they knew about.

Yes and it was for a stupid reason! I went to an all girls Catholic H.S. and we had to wear a uniform. The only difference between the "winter" uniform and regular uniform was that you could wear tights and a sweater in the winter. Otherwise, you had to wear knee socks, no tights. Well 2 days before winter uniform went into effect, it was cold out so I wore tights. I was sitting at the lunch table so my legs were under the table and the vice principal looked under the table and he gave me detention for wearing tights 2 days early   .

hmmmm....only once, that I can recall (I guess the rest of the times I just never got caught :p )

I was in 9th grade, the science teacher had taken 12 of us by train to NYC, to the Museum of Natural History. He just let us off on our own and told us to be at the entrance at 1:00. Well, we were all there on time....HE was not!! I got tired of waiting, maybe after a half hour or 40 minutes I'd decided school's out, I was outta there ....5 others came with me, the other 6 stayed. We got on the subway and made our way back home....
Now the next days' announcements were followed by the calling of 6 student names....I about died laughing when I heard the other 5 door-slams echoing in the hallway as we all made our way to the office. Only a half-hour was served....we protested; yeah it was irresponsible to leave , but it was just as irresponsible for the teacher to be that late, and if HE wasn't sitting there serving time, than neither was I  ;)

I think detention was invented after I graduated HS (1968)

Back in those days you either got sent home for 3 days or you had a meeting with the "Board of Education" <~~~ a shaved down club with holes drilled in it....

Yes, i was suspended and yes, i had meetings with the "Board of Education"

My suspension was in my senior year...we had off starting on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day and Friday the day after.

Deer Season started the Monday after and I skipped Monday, Tuesday & Wednseday to hunt.

When i returned Thursday i was sporting a beard and got suspended....for the beard..NOT for skipping....

My HS used to be next to a big open field where cattle grazed (it's a subdivision now). During Seniors pictures myself and some friends went into the fields to look for cow skulls. One of the Vice Principals saw us from his office window and was waiting when we got back and we all got detention. Luckily you could pick your own detention time so I waited until the last Saturday of the school year to do mine (Had to do it to graduate).
