Did you ever feel the need???

In the south it's not interrupting. It's called being friendly.:thumbsup2

I love to talk Disney. Though a couple weeks ago I really had to bite my tongue. We were at a friend's house and they were getting ready for their first WDW trip. They had a relative visiting who thought he was a Disney expert. Kept going on and on about how if you have loads of money you can stay in the castle and how he never uses fast pass, you just have to know what you're doing. So we asked when the last time he was there--1998! At that point we just nodded and smiled at the rest of his "expert" comments.

I usually don't say anything when I hear people making mistakes, but I occasionally will if it's something that would make a big difference to their vacation - like the time I heard someone trying to convince the person they were with that if they stayed at a hotel by Seaworld they could pay extra to get WDW passes with the EMH option without staying on Disney premises.

I'm sure people want to correct me sometimes, though. We refuse to switch to DHS - it's always going to be MGM to me. Soemtimes I still call EMH "Early Entry" even though I know it isn't the same. And occasionally we hear someone say something so absurd that we later incorporate it into our conversations. The horrible "Leave a Legacy" things are tombstones because we thought it was so funny when someone else called it that. We take turns threatening to bury each other in the things each time we walk by them. And every time we go on Everest, we say "Look, son - the Sasquatch!" because we heard a dad say that to his son the first time we rode it during the soft opening. (I think he was serious, but for all I know he got it from someone else the same say we did.)

My husband works with a guy who owns DVC and goes to DW often. Last fall he was going and was getting the dining plan and told my husband that he couldn't wait because he could get all the alcohol he could and wouldn't have to pay for it. I told my DH to tell him that he doesn't get alcohol with the dining plan. DH told him but didn't believe him.

I would have to chime in on that one too!!!

I am right there with you. It is burned in my brain as MGM. I have to really think DHS, DHS or it rolls off the tongue MGM! Even when we were there!
Ditto. I also call Spaceship Earth "the big golf ball", and Triceratops Spin "dinosaur dumbo". :rotfl: I know some people hate that, but we enjoy it.

Anyway, I will chuckle at some of the things people say, too, and I'd only correct them if it was going to mess up their trip -- like skipping AK because EE "is at DHS"! :rotfl:

But to the OP, since you brought it up, you do know the name of the restaurant at the Poly is Ohana, not Ohanas, right? ;) :)

I would never interrupt someone's conversation just to correct them on the name of a ride or park. However, if it were something that would impact thier vacation, such as thinking an attraction was in the wrong park, I might say something.

One thing we did hear one night though was pretty funny. DH and I were sitting on the bench swings on the Poly beach during the MK fireworks. A dad and his young son walked behind us and the dad said, "look...those must be the Epcot fireworks!" The son says, "But that's the castle right there." And the dad replies, "Well, I know that, but I'm pretty sure those are Epcot fireworks!!" DH and I were like, what????!!!! How much more of a clue do you need than the castle?!

After living in the "south" for 16 years, I know what you mean. But with Disney you just can't help speaking up. Even my DH has gotten into it. :lmao:He doesn't give the advice, he just gets their contact information and has me contact them with places to go, where to find information, etc.

He went to pick up our Military tickets and got to talking to someone one going and got their email address and told them that I planned all our trips and I could tell him where to find the best information. Of course I pointed them to the Disboards. :thumbsup2

I am always on the look out for people to talk to Disney about (Not that I know everything). I helped a friend of my Mom's plan her trip and there were times when she just didn't get it. I helped another friend who called me when she was quoted a huge amount for a weeks stay after someone told her that the best place for her party of 6 people to stay would be the FW Cabins. I told her about the values (get 2 rooms: 1 for them and 1 for her parents) and was able to get them Free Dining for the time they are going to be there. She was so grateful for the help and I was happy to talk about Disney!

What I really want to know was what the reactions were of the people that you helped out.

When I'm not at Disney World, I'll usually correct them if they're totally wrong.
When I'm in the parks and people have things totally wrong, I just turn and laugh. I was sitting at Peco's waiting for Kari to get off. There was a very large family sitting next to me, and one lady was going on about their plans. "We're gonna go to Pirates, then Aladdin. Walk to the front of the Castle and go into Fantasyland to ride Peter Pan (maybe it was small world). Finally I'm absolutely going to go on Space Mountain, and some one could take the little kids on Buzz or do something else, but there's no way I'm missing that one this time." The was in the middle of summer, Space was already down for a month.
Now if it's a family a bit lost or turned around, I'll put in my two sense. But for some one that doesn't want to read, I just laugh.

That's how I am, too.

And I also still call it MGM out of habit but even more because I really dislike the name "Disney's Hollywood Studios". It's kind of like Dixie Landings/Port Orleans Riverside name change, only I like both of those names fine and still use both on occasion. Same goes for ADRs and PS's. I use either term when I'm talking to people familiar with both terms.

But I just flat out don't like the new name for MGM.

Oh, I actually find that one quite sad, not at all laughable like many of the other things on this thread. There are lots of people who still use guidebooks rather than the internet to do their travel planning. Attraction closures are not things that those sorts of tourists are likely to find out about no matter how many books they read. I bet that person was horribly disappointed to find Space Mountain closed.

Well she was talking like she knew Disney like the back of her hand. She was also sitting at Peco's Bill in Frontierland. All you have to do is pick up a times guide to realize that it's closed for refurb. If she said in passing, we should go on Space or something, I would've spoken up, I just didn't want to interrupt her "I know everything Disney" speech.
I also couldn't help wondering why should would walk to Castle Hub to get to Fantasyland to get to Peter Pan or Small World. Even from Aladdin, it's much easier to take that pathway to Bears, walk through Liberty Square into Fantasyland. It was also early enough, that they were still doing "Dream Along with Mickey" and so the castle pathway would be blocked off.

I just didn't have the guts to speak up that time, and it made me laugh. Sorry you don't find it funny.

Well, this being MA, the reaction was a couple of raised eyebrows and an polite, but insincere "Thank you".

I only corrected the EE being in Animal Kingdom, so dont skip that park, and the Ohana restaurant, which I agreed was delicious. Hopefully he understood I did not say Aloha's.

And to the person who posted above re: Ohana not being OHanaS..I didnt know! I always called it Ohanas!!!! Thanks!!!

Well I am british and a buttinski.

I cant help it, i have helped my old boss and my current boss to plan a trip

and yes, if I hear peeps talking Walt and talking crappola I do butt in.

I cant help it, I just love WDW and DW so much, that I want everyone to get a better trip by learning from my mistakes

I only say something to those who assume that WDW and Universal are one and the same. If they go to one expecting the other they'll be badly disappointed.

Other than that, these are all common mistakes newbies make. We've all been new at one time or another so these aren't really shocking or anything.

I never have but if the advice being given was that bad no doubt I would interrupt to correct the adviser.
