Did you enjoy gym class in school?

Are most gym classes co-ed now? My DD just started high school and her class is co-ed. They just finished up a 3-week unit on flag football and she said that the guys in the class would not throw the ball to any girls.
I've always had co-ed gym classes, sometimes it would have been nicer to not be with the boys though... It depanded on what we played if a girl would be able to participate or not. Flag football usually equaled girls just standing there with no action.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I was at WDW when this posted.

I loved PE classes. I took so many in high school they finally said "no more!" Darn, I never had the chance to learn to play golf.

I did learn tennis in HS PE though.

I had an awesome PE teacher in elementary school in NJ. I wish every child could have a teacher like her. Of course, we had every piece of equipment you could think of because all those tax dollars for the schools on LBI. in TN, it was quite different. For the most part, PE was lacking until HS.

I love being active now, but in jr. high and highschool it was more important for me to socialize with my friends and skip P.E. It was cool to be in sports, but not in P.E. :confused3 The best was when they'd give us the mile run. We'd run just out of the PE teacher's eyesight, cut through the woods, and take short cut back to the finish line :rotfl: :rotfl: Those were in the days too when having a note from your mom about your period could get you excused from class. How many of those did we forge? :rotfl: :rotfl:

Seriously though, I think P.E. is an important and essential class now that I'm much older and wiser :confused3 I am sorry to see so many Phys ED programs are being scaled back in the school curriculum.

I liked it except for track. But one year I had messed up my knee so much in gymnastics that I had a doc's note to get out of track!  The following year, I don't remember having track either. They were trying new things that year...roller skating in the gym. :teeth:

You and me both. DS is in a private school. It's horrible. He has PE just one day a week and only ONE SEMESTER!! This kid is a diabetic and needs to move daily. Not to mention that all kids need more exercise! His private school in FL had the kids in PE two times a week all year long.

It's not like they're replacing it with anything worthwhile. Now in 7th grade, these kids have "electives." Because I registered him late due to a few things, he was "stuck" where they had room. The kid has a study hall, a forensics class, and music. Ha! Next semester he has two forensics classes, study, art! What's with that? Believe me, these classes (except study hall) were at the bottom of his list of choices. They had to number everything offered according to their preference. Looks like I'll be calling and griping to school on Monday.

Roller Skating in the gym?? LOL Good Lord, we were lucky to be able to wear the right sneakers to be allowed on the gym floor--let alone skate on it! LOL

I really disliked gym especially when having to take showers in the horrible shower room we had.

:teeth: Must have scheduled that when the floor needed refinishing any way. I'm sure they must have had it done after skating.

I also hated gym class so allergy season was the best time of year. I could happily sneeze with my nose in a book. But then I took dance classes outside of school and managed the basketball team

Frist of all, I grew up in and still live in the only state that REQUIRES 4 years of PE in High School (IL).
I was soooo lame in PE that when teams were picked it went like this - "You take Lisa (me) and we'll take the fat kid (not nice for sure)". The ONLY thing that I liked was swimming and that's becaue I realized that I could stay in "beginner" swimming for all 4 years and that meant that I would not have to get my fab Farrah Fawcett hairdo wet since we stayed in the shallow end and used kickboards. Although, the "loaner" swimsuits that we had to wear were even worse than the ugly one-piece uniforms that we also wore out of the water. (You read that right, they gave us swimsuits that supposedly had been cleaned since the last person wore it)

I think we went to the same school! And the woman that handed out the b-suits made sure you had showered. It's always fun putting a b-suit on when you're wet!

Also, I was the first class that went co-ed,

Me too! In junior high, we had to take wrestling, in our snap up blue gym suits. The worst was the part where you & a partner had to do a match in front of the class. I respectfully declined and took the bad grade. No way I was wrestling in that blue suit, in front of boys!

I hated gym class. I hated changing in front of others, I hated getting all sweaty and returning to class. UGH!

I hated gym in middle school. We had an annual physical fitness test and had to do pull-ups, sit-ups, and run a mile. I could never do any of the pull-ups and I was always one of the last runners. We had to wear yellow t-shirts with the school's name on them and blue polyester shorts! Yuck!

In high school I remember taking modern dance and bowling. Loved them both. Every friday we would board a bus and go to the bowling alley. I always looked forward to that!

I loved my gym teachers. Could take or leave gym class.

I saw my teachers (they're married to each other) over the summer. Hadn't seen them in years.

i hated gym in school, not that i didnt like running around & exercise but the conformed activities.
