Did we make a big mistake??

If it helps any I was just there last week, the APs were unblocked, it was the July 4th holiday. Crowds were completely tolerable. They were there but manageable. Just remember those fast passes and a little strategy. Believe it or not the one day we did in the middle of Universal was CRAZY. I'm talking shoulder to shoulder crowds. It made me wish I was dealing with the DL crowds again! I wouldn't worry because there are two parks and so much to see in DCA now everyone is spreading out nicely. I loved it.
BTW my son has ASD, I don't know if that's the disability you are referring to. We brought a doc's note (someone else here says you don't have to, they may be right, but we did just to be safe). They gave me a GAC for him with no problem. It helped sooooo much.

We just got back last night. Most of the crowds were in Cars Land, the rest of the parks were mostly walk on lines. There were exceptions of course but that was the norm. Cars Land does not get less crowded, even at night. Wait times for SR were regularly 60 minutes (yes we waited), wait times for FP return were 45-60, GAC users are routed through the FP return line so know that even with the GAC you may wait longer than he wants to. Yes, it will be busier as the So Cal AP holders will be back in the parks but if you know this and plan accordingly you will have a great time.

I would like to thank you and your husband for his sacrifice for the rest of us.

As far as crowd levels, the worst day at Disneyland is still better than the best day at work.

How exactly does this work for little ones? Do they have a separate waiting area? Do you have to use it all the time or if he's having a good day can you forgo it? I'd love to hear about your experience and how it helped so much. Thank you!

Thank you! And you are right about the worst day at dl being better then work :) I do know if crowds are too heavy my husband may be forced to leave, however :(
