Did we get enough points?

What resorts have a minimum of 50 pts? Also when would it be a problem to have direct and resale pts at the same resort?
I just purchased a small contract (50 pts), thinking I could add on if we started going to WDW more than every few years. I would really like 75 points, and thought I would be able to add on 25 pts once it closed. TIA
I think the minimum was 50 at Riviera. I don’t know if it still is.

Direct and resale points at the same resort are not a problem. They can be a problem if you’re trying to book another resort at the 7 month mark and Riviera is involved.

It was lowered a few months back and I think you can get as little as 25 if paying cash. Still 50 for financing with them.

But now I’m thinking maybe we should have gone with 150 or even more if we wanted to go another year rather than every 2-3.
It's pretty exciting at the very beginning and easy to buy. The points will always be there--true, they may get a little more expensive, but they will be there.

Technically? Of course 100 pts is enough... reality, you never have enough points! And never, ever stay in a 1bd if you're fine in a studio. Especially the BLT 1bd.

Once you do 1BR it will totally mess up DVC point charts for you lol. If you are traveling with kids and do a 1BR you won't go back to studios, even given the crazy jump in points needed. They are part of the reason we have added on so many times.

Teenagers too, DS(16) and DD(13). Second full bathroom (not that second shower nonsense at Poly Studios FULL real bathroom) and separate beds. Once you go 1bd you never go back!

I'd agree to just stay out of 1BR's and you'll be fine.

There's always the possibility to transfer points into your membership in the odd case or two where you might find that 100 is not enough. Transferred points are also bankable but you can't borrow them so it's just important to find the right UY. Once they are in your account they are under your control. Or you could also add onto what you can book either by renting a reservation to link to your own or to pay cash for a few nights. That would be vs buying a larger contract. If you did that you shouldn't ever have to come up losing money on renting but if it's more likely you would just need more points for the odd trip or two it will be easier to fill in the gap with a transfer or renting some nights yourself vs renting out excess points every year or two no matter how easy that can be.

I agree. Unfortunately Kidani and BLT are the only 2 1 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms.

1. addonitis is Real and highly likely so stick to one Use Year (best advice i received)
2. if you eventually stay in a 1 bedroom Villa, you'll be hooked

try 100pts and in parallel begin to map out plan & budget for more.
we started with 150 BRV and quickly realized we needed more, especially to travel with family members. we're at 600 and counting.

forgot to mention that purchasing different home resorts is a good strategy, but only after you secure enough points at current home resort to book your desired accommodation at 11 month window.
Good Luck and enjoy!

You're so right about the 1BR. Disney moved my husband and I from a regular room at Port Orleans to newly refurbished 1 BR in Congress park at Saratoga springs. We had a gorgeous view of Disney springs. Once I stayed in that room I was never going back to a regular room, lol. We just bought 200 points at SSR (getting 400 in 2022 though) and I'm sure we'll add on eventually lol

As I’ve said before, everyone should just save themselves the grief and just start with a 1BR with the knowledge you’ll be moving up to a 2BR. LOL. That way there’s no painful transition.
Or do like we did and start with points for a 2 BR. That was a long time ago, however, and per-point prices were much more reasonable.

My strategy was to find a loaded contract- 400 points coming March 1 on a 200 point contract. So now we have plenty of wiggle room that will hopefully last me a few years before I "need" to add on...but who knows maybe it will happen sooner, lol
