Did WDW always have Character Breakfasts?

I've been going to WDW since I was very, very little (1974). However, not until the late 80's or early 90's did I go to character breakfasts. We didn't stay on property till we bought DVC, so maybe that's why I never knew of them?

Did WDW always have CB?

If so, can you tell me how they may be different than they are today?

Interesting question....I also have been going since 1971 but did not stay on property until 1992 which is when we went to our first. It was on the paddle boat in DTD. I am thinking there was no other and it was very difficult to get reservations...............anybody know ??????

I know that at least in the mid 80's (1986ish) there was the character breakfast on the Empress Lilly. It may have been around before then but the earliest trip I can remember there was going when my little brother was about 2.

This is the one that I went on when I was 6. So that would be 1987.It was the one and only time my parents ever booked one.

I will be going to CRT for the first time in 2 wks!

We also did Empress Lily in probably '85. I also have pics of one at "The Disney Inn" from the same time.

When we stayed at Disney in 1986 we had breakfast with Minnie and friends at the Poly.

I forgot about the one at the Poly. We definitely did that in the early 80's as well.

We stayed off-site but did this breakfast in 1983. My mom still complains that they paid $7.95 for my breakfast and I didn't eat a thing! I think she's even still got the souvenier juice cup.

Ate at a character breakfast in 1979 on the Empress Lily. It was just dh and I, dd was still a gleam in her dad's eye. ;)

As far as I know there have always been character meals in some form or fashion. The Terrace Buffeteria at the Contemporary and Papeete Bay Verandah both served character breakfast and dinners; so did the Empress Lily, as well as several MK restaurants.

We had reservations for one in '89 when we took our boys. It was probably Empress Lily. We had to cancel morning of because my oldest got sick and we couldn't go.

We I went with my family in 1982, there was only one that I know of. It had Micky, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy. You got a Mickey Ears balloon with your breakfast and it was pre-plated. I will never forget it. I was only in the second grade, but it was the highlight of my trip :goodvibes

So far, we can go back to 1979 as the first Character Meals........

Our first character meal was actually counter service! My now 17yo daughter was about 2 or 3, which would have been 1988 or 89, and it was at the Electric Umbrella. We just ordered the regular counter service breakfast stuff, and the characters (I remember Pluto, Goofy, and Minnie - maybe Mickey) came by wearing those groovy silver space suits they used to wear at Epcot.
