So, there's a seriously ugly/insane argument going on in my family. Several members SWEAR they read that the Magic was a ship from another fleet, purchased by Disney, and re-fit to the ship we know today.

I argued that it was built from scratch by Fincantieri.

No one knows more than the folks on this board, so please let me know who's right. I hope it's me so I can say "I TOLD YOU SO" lol

You Win!!!!! From Wikipedia..

Planning and construction

Disney had cruise ship designs drawn up by February 1994.[6] Disney Cruise Line in 1995 ordered Disney Magic and Disney Wonder from Fincantieri in Italy. The ship was built in two halves with the bow built at Fincatieri's Ancona shipyard and the stern at their Marghera shipyard.

Yep.

There were Disney-themed cruises on the "Big Red Boat" from 1985-1993 run by Premier Cruise Line under license from Disney.

After this arrangement ended, Disney decided to create their own cruise line.

When the Disney Magic launched in 1998, it was brand new.

The Big Red Boat was run by the now defunct Premier Cruise Line. I sailed on the "Oceanic" for my honeymoon in 1995, but we had Looney Tunes characters as the Disney contract had ended.
