I guess I just don't get it. We've had a pool for 20 years and in all that time with our own children and all of my nieces and nephews, not one child has ever been unable to get themselves to a bathroom in time. Sorry, I'm with the ewww, really gross and lazy faction.

You could also try training your kids to pee in your mole holes. DH read that diluted urine would help rid you of moles in the lawn. We had moles something awful that year so one weekend he had a "pee bucket" out by the tree the guys usually use when we are sitting around the campfire. Next day, he diluted the contents and poured them in the mole holes. Worked like a charm. The lawn looked better than summer than it ever had and the moles were gone!

I'll have to give this remedy a try.
My son would probably not mind to oblige!

I just asked my DH and he said that he learned it from Home & Garden TV. It is kind of gross but it definitely did work. It helps if you have brothers like mine who think that peeing in a bucket is a step up from peeing on the ground under a bush!

If there's a toilet readily available, I think it should be used. I don't have anything against peeing outdoors on principal but I don't really see why you'd choose to over using proper facilities

I'm curious where all the people who think it's okay to pee in their yard, in their swimsuit,etc. fall on the "do you wash your hands after you use the bathroom" threads? Obviously there's no sink with soap next to that tree!

Of course, by this thread it's sounds like we can just pee directly on our hands to sterilize them and save ourselves a step! I loved the one about peeing directly into the pool to sanitize the pool!

I'll correct you slightly on the washing hands topic. It wasn't about whether you wash or not, but why. Sorry I'm not one to create long topic titles. Of course that comes from old message boards where titles had to be smaller.

I don't see the problem with it. I always hated sitting on the toilet with a wet butt. And then your suit gets cold... I guess the other option would be to toss the kid in the shower if you have a hand held shower head and rinsing them off afterwards.

And if it's what's on the outside that holds the bacteria... wouldn't that already be in the pool??

The kid peed behind the shed in her own yard? And this is bad...because?

I would rather have my little boy or girl pee behind a tree or other yard structure than pee in the pool or try to skate across my floor without taking a dive down the stairs just so they can use the john. Poop would be another thing.

The fact that this is not your yard makes it a MYOB moment.

We just recently "taught" my older son that it's ok to pee outside - out of eyesight. He thinks it awesome! I have a huge yard and he has a small bladder. I would rather he pee behind the shed then not make it up the big hill, into the house, across the house, and to the toilet.

I will teach my younger son the same thing. Hell, behind my shed is where EVERYONE goes during our parties. I don't see the big deal...

I'm in the ew camp on this one. If you're in an area where there is no potty available (campking, hiking, etc) then you do what you have to do. But this is just gross. I just can't imagine willingly exposing myself (or allowing a child to) out there in the open. You may think it's private, but how do you know for sure? Do your nieghbors not have upper floors/decks that could allow them to see into your yard?

Because they have never seen anyone pee before? Or because there is a child molester behind every door?

I could not care less where someone takes a pee. I've never gotten the hang of it, myself. Always got my shorts wet camping!

Our 5 year olds were playing in a small kiddie pool in my friends backyard.

My friends daughter had to use the bathroom. My friend goes into her house, gets her daughter's flip-flops, the kid is practically dry by now, and takes her daughter behind the shed to do her business.

She comes back around to the patio and laughs, "Oh, we have a little spot that we do that back there." I just couldn't think of anything to say!

I was pretty surprised by this. Don't know why she didn't just take the kid inside to do her business. They do have indoor plumbing! Honestly, I was glad my daughter didn't ask to go because I would have been pretty adamant about her using the real bathroom. My 5 year old even asked me, "Did she just pee in the grass?"


Yeah, there are times when nature calls only nature will do, but not when your bathroom is 20 feet away. Gimme a break.

If there is a bathroom, you use it! I, and my dcs, have gone outside while camping. I don't find it acceptable to go in the yard when the bathroom is right there. That being said, when dd was 4, we had some friends over and they were all playing. DD went inside but came back after a few minutes with different pants on. After some investigation, I found out she had "tried" to pee outside. WTH?!? It was funny, and it didn't work out so well for her!

Ones yard is not 'out in the lower 40 behind the barn'.

Even if I lived on a farm or ranch, if I were 20 feet away from the house, and we had guests over, you can bet I would be doing the unlazy and respectable and respectful thing... I would go inside to the bathroom.

Why bother with the hassle and kids slipping while running, when the azalea bushes are so convenient? The only one gonna "see" them pee is the herd of cows in the back pasture...I'm sure they don't care!!!

I would just tell my kid not to run on the plastic because it isn't safe.

But what do I know, I'm one of those nutty folks that would also tell my kid not to piss outside the house because that is down right nasty.

Bathrooms were made for a reason! Why would anyone be allowed to pee outside, I just don't understand. Who cares if the floor gets wet because you just got out of a pool, towel up the water.. Simple!!
