We did the Secrets of the Sideshow tour this afternoon, and it was awesome!! Saw three of the soundstage houses with the lights on (Freddie, Mary Shaw, and the Christmas house), which allowed us to truly appreciate just how much detail goes into each one. It's a shame that most people just see them in the near-darkness and don't realize the level of detail. Our guide gave us lots of trivia etc. along the way (for example, the cobwebs are actually made with glue guns!).

My absolute favorite thing was the leg lamp (ala "Christmas Story") in the Christmas house. If that version of the lamp had been in the original movie, poor Ralphie would have needed extensive therapy in adulthood. I have a weird, dark sense of humor, so I really appreciated that house...I think it's one of those things you either "get" or you don't.

The other two were more standard (and the dolls in Mary Shaw were giving hubby the willies); can't wait to see them in the dark when we do our RIP tour on Sept. 28. The catwalk effect in Mary Shaw is awesome!

After seeing the houses, we had a chance to ask questions and talk to many of the team members who designed the houses and other elements of HHN. I really enjoyed seeing their passion for their work.

If things are easily spoiled for you by knowing how something is done, then this tour is not for you. But if you are insatiably curious like me, and if knowing the mechanics doesn't keep you from suspension of disbelief when you are in the midst of an experience, I definitely recommend it.
