Did Rain Ruin Your Trip?

We have been when it rained ALL.DAY.LONG. And in the winter, and it was cold and wet and just yuck. But I don't think it was ruined. We still had fun. :)

We just got back Friday and I, too, had stressed about the rain but once we got there, I actually hoped it would rain because it really did help with the heat and made it even more of a breeze to go on rides.

Granted, last week was not crowded at all and we did pretty much walk on to rides, but our first night it rained for about an hour and a half, pretty hard, and of course, I had forgotten the rain ponchos as it was our first day and we just ran over to MK for a little while. So for the first few minutes I felt terrible but then, when people started scattering and the rides opened it up, it was actually pretty cool.

However, my 4 year olds didn't mind and we got to ride several rides in a row without even getting off them (for the tea cups we road 3 times in a row, then dashed over to Pooh for 3 times in a row, though we got out, and then ate dinner and did Buzz 3 times).

The rain stopped in time for the parade and fireworks.

The next day it rained for about ten minutes, and the third day for about an hour on and off (but light), both times toward the end of the day.

The rain did not ruin or impede our fun in any way. In fact, I prayed for it to rain in HS because it was so hot and that park, to me, seems to be the hottest. And that was one of the days with no rain.

Pack some rain ponchos and if you have a stroller, a rain cover. The only thing we used during the week was the rain cover for the stroller.

I can't attest to an all day rain as that would probably have put a damper on the fun, but our September experience was excellent, rain included.

It was late March. We knew it would be cool but it was absolutely freezing! As I mentioned, even the Cast Members says it was unusually cold. For the first two days, most of the places in Disney had sold out of the gloves and hats!

We were wearing a shirt, jumper and a jacket and were STILL cold!

Wow! See I was expecting you to say you were there during the abnormally freezing Januaries of recent years - but yes, March is something I'd be very surprised about! We've had to buy sweatshirts when visiting in late Feb before, but that was only because we were so enjoying the 70 degree weather during the day that we quickly forgot that 20 degree drops are common for night =D But, now I have a cute pink Tink sweatshirt - can't beat that excuse to buy it! I actually "needed" it this time! :rotfl:

dd and i went on a mom/daughter:earsgirl::earsgirl: trip last aug 09 and one whole day it rained--A LOT! but you just have to make up your mind that you are going to have a good time NO MATTER WHAT! (in regards to weather)---when it rained hard, we got under a shelter and watched other people in the rain,:rotfl2: or we took that time and shopped or goofed off with hats, etcs! we just had fun and tried to ignore the rain and make the best of it! pack your poncho's in your backpack, fanny pack or whatever and just be prepared to have FUN!!!!

Woohoo! Love disney, even in the rain!

Tried to post 'rain pics', but couldn't get them to upload!

We have gone twice during hurricane season in Sept and still had a GREAT time!! The first time, our daughter had just turned four. As we were walking in the rain to the bus stop, she looked up at me and said,"Mom, it's raining in my shoes." So cute...I had to write that one down in her baby book!!!

I was at WDW in 2005 during Hurricane Wilma. We knew before we left on Saturday that the hurricane was headed toward Florida a couple of days later. We discussed whether to cancel our trip, but decided to go.

I'm so glad we went ahead with our trip! We arrived on Saturday night, and the hurricane came the next night about 8:00 pm. Torrential rain that night - we were at Epcot and got totally soaked, even with ponchos! Headed back to the room to hunker down for the storm.

We just got the outer "fringes" of the hurricane, so we had really strong winds (around 75mph) and heavy rain for about 18 hours, but nothing too serious. The folks at Shades of Green Hotel made everyone stay in their rooms during the storm for safety reasons (the parks were closed). They communicated with us via voice mail about the status of the storm, and when the parks would re-open. MK and Epcot opened at 2:00 p.m. that day.

So I say, don't worry too much! Many hurricane don't even reach land, and even if they do, by the time they reach Orlando, the strength of the hurricane dies way down. I'm so glad we didn't cancel our trip - it was actually one of our best trips ever, since the storm literally "blew away" all of the humidity, and the weather was so pleasant after the storm went through. It went from 90+ degrees with lots of humidity on Sunday, to 80 degrees and low humidity after the storm.

Have any of you had your trip ruined because of rain? I know that since we decided to book in September, right in the height of hurricane season, that there is always a possibility of having heavy rains. I'm hoping we get some magic :wizard: and nothing come our way. DH tells me to stop worrying because if it rains, there's nothing we can do about it. Anyone have any stories about how your vacation went with rain? Thanks!

A good recommendation to pack for your trip: buy your ponchos locally. We heva been to DW many times and had our share of rainy days, but bought the ponchos at the park, until we started packing them for future trips... :)

We have never had our vacation ruined by rain, but boy did we get a lot during our trip in May/June of this year!

Day 1--MK--slight rain, one of those short afternoon showers that sent us into Philharmagic, and then it was over.

Day 2--AK--Came out of the 9 o'clock pm show of FOTLK to rainforest-y conditions: pouring rain and lightning. We bought pizza for dinner and sat outside under an umbrella. Good times, almost didn't mind not getting to ride EE one last time (we assume it would have been closed).

Day 3--DHS--Rain (more than a drizzle, less than a downpour) stopped the 9 o'clock showing of Fantasmic! right in the middle; the show was canceled. We stayed around for the 10:30 showing, which was delayed about a half hour, but it was worth it!

Day 4--Typhoon Lagoon--Rain held off until we got to that night's dining, the Polynesian Luau. Again, pouring rain and lightning. The show was delayed for a really long time while we all ate, and then when it finally resumed, the performers mostly stayed on the covered stage instead of venturing out into the open. Rain had stopped by the time we left.

Day 5--Epcot. This was a crazy day--started pouring while we were there, so we decided to take a break and go to DtD. Took the monorail to the TTA and then another to the Polynesian to get a bus. Bus did not come. Torrential rain and lightning, we were soaked and it was so much fun running from the monorail platform to the bus station. Got back on monorail, went to GF. Finally got a bus to DTD. Hid out in the World of Disney Store until the rain had cleared up. Rest of day was beautiful.

Day 6--MK. Rain started right before the Celebrate A Dream Come True parade, so the parade was delayed about 45 minutes or so. Finally the parade came through, and right after it got to the end of the route (I was standing there, by Splash Mountain), the rain began again. Ran to Pirates of the Caribbean.

Needless to say, the rain made the trip more interesting and delayed a few things--but it was also really fun and in no way ruined our trip.

Do bring ponchos--we ended up leaving them in the hotel room and just let ourselves get soaked every day, but you might not be as crazy as us!

We had a cold, raining day in November 2009. The rest of our trip was lovely. However, we had to change plans a bit. The day it rained was World Showcase day. At first, we were freezing and miserable but when we switched gears and opted to do Futureworld instead, it was great. The attractions were mostly indoors and virtually no lines. Epcot was a ghost town!
