When Pixar started out they first debuted the famous Luxo Jr shorts on Sesame Street but when I was looking at commercials I noticed that Pixar also did computer animated commercials way before teaming up with Disney and from I learned Pixar's first commercials were for Trident Gum and they later did animated commercials for Listerine and Gummi-Savers and Life-Savers commercials too. I never knew Pixar also does commercials in addition to movies with Disney. What was the first ever commercial animated by Pixar and what commercials have they animated so far? Is there a complete list?

I have seen Toy Story 2 many times and I never noticed that when Hamm changes channels on Andy's TV trying to search for the Al's Toy Barn commercial that the "TV channels" are actually Pixar commercial clips. I think I did spot a Listerine commercial clip on there as well. How long did Pixar do commercials before launching the Luxo Jr. shorts on Sesame Street and doing movies with Disney?

I think why Pixar wanted to do commercials in addition to animated cartoon shorts was to see how successful they would become and that soon paid off because with computer animation huge at the time Pixar wanted to get their feet wet by also doing commercials. Some Pixar animated commercials I had unearthed were Listerine commercials and then I found Lifesavers commercials which I think are their prized commercials ever made. Little did we know that Pixar would become even more famous with Toy Story in 1995

There is also an excellent Leslie Iwerks documentary on Disney-Plus called The Pixar Story which includes their early commercials work.
I wonder if there is any connection between that documentary and a wonderful book I read on the same subject, The Pixar Touch: The Making of a Company by David. A Price.

Pixar did commercials because they needed to pay the bills and keep the company going. The company's goal from the start was feature length computer animated movies. They took other jobs so they'd have money for research and development to accomplish their dream, as well as an opportunity to test and refine the technology needed to make it happen.
