So if someone puts your name in a photo caption without using the tag link, people can find that photo too.
Doesn't show up on a google search though, so how are they going to find it?

Did you read what I bolded and was questioning? I'll put it below to be clear:
A lot of companies also get information from Lexus Nexus to feed into that software so they will have every address you ever lived at, every phone number you ever had, and your credit record.
Are you suggesting that they get this information through people tagging you on FB photos? If not, I ask again - what does that have to do with tagging on FB? I get that you are the expert on this and that all of us are wrong about privacy settings, but even with that I don't see how tagging photos on FB gives people access to my credit report.
Just replying to folks who questioned it. I didn't bring it up.If you don't know about employers checking Facebook why have you made this huge discussion about it?
Sometimes, it is good to know when to let it go and walk away.
Sorry if you're misunderstanding. Maybe I should refer to this as "captioning" as opposed to "tagging". If someone puts a picture of you and captions it 'SirDuff" without using the tagging option of FB, your FB privacy settings will not prevent this from being seen from someone who has the FB page public.
What is your source for this?
Sounds like lazy supervisors. I always check references and have always had references checked. I may not check all the references listed but I do check. Also if I know someone at a previous institution (it's a small world) I'll call and ask them what they think of the person but only if I let the potential employer know before hand and if I am already fairly certain I will hire the personSource? 40 years in the working world. I have never had my references checked, last 15 years my resume says "References Upon Request" and they have never been requested. I have been listed on a Reference on more people's resumes than I can remember and have never been called.
HOWEVER, I have had co-workers get in the awkward situation when a potential employer knows the names of, or finds the names of supervisors you have had that you did NOT list as a reference and calling them asking for a reference. One woman got called in by our boss to explain why he is getting calls asking for references when he didn't consent to it, and didn't know she was looking for work elsewhere.
I'm not sure why you are having so much trouble understanding my question (which has nothing to do with what you just said - which, by the way, I stated many, many posts ago).
Once again:
You said: A lot of companies also get information from Lexus Nexus to feed into that software so they will have every address you ever lived at, every phone number you ever had, and your credit record.
I asked (third time now): What does that have to do with other people tagging/labeling photos of someone on FB?

Again, could be unique to my industry. My wife's employer in the past 2 years has turned to hiring "about to graduate from college" people. They have no work history, and all you have to go on is their social media posts.I've never not checked. Nor have I ever had mine not checked. Apparently we are crazy hirers though - I've also never looked at anyone's social media (or looked for a Google image).
