Everyone has been guessing why DVC is increasing the minimum number of points to add on at BLT.

The most frequent guess is that DVC wanted to push add on sales into this quarter to show a healthier rate of sales. They felt that they could get the fence sitters off the fence now!

It worked on me! I bought a 30 point contract on 11/25/08. I would probably not have bought at BLT until 11 month before I planned to stay there. I may not have added on there at all.

Did it work on you? Will it work on you before Jan 15th?

No we didn't purchase. We recently purchased as SSR and our plan is when we add points to add them at SSR. Our kids are older and as they get married and have kids we want the option of using all of our points at the 11 month window to book the big villas for extended family vacations.

It almost worked on us. But after a lot of thought over the past few days, we've decided to just try and find a resale at Saratoga and keep our points all the same. I'm shopping. (Laughter).

If it did anything, it truly caused me to think about it. If I was getting a bonus this year, I may have considered it, but that's NOT going to happen! So, no, we're not going to add on before 1/15.

If I can stay there every once in a while, I'll be perfectly happy with that.

It had no effect on us -- but might have if we didn't already own a 25-pt contract at SSR. Owning a single block of 25 points somewhere is my hope of holding on to a sliver of Disney even if I later choose to sell the two larger contracts.

We have two ADR's there. On our arrival day and then one day during the week too.

Over the last few weeks DW and I have discussed adding on at BLT or AKV, I made the suggestion finally for an add-on at AKV. We really like BLT but just can't bring ourselves to pay that price and then have to purchase more points because of the extra points it takes to stay there. We are strongly leaning towards an add-on at AKV. We both really love it, DW suggested we should have bought there to begin with even though we love SSR. So after alot of agonizing we will probably pull the trigger in the next few days or so bucause we would like to do a split stay, SSR/AKV, the end of Oct begining of Nov next year.

I doubt it'll have all that much effect. I also doubt the reason for the change was for the reasons stated. I suspect it's more of a realization that the points are higher for BLT and a move to sell more points with less admin costs overall. I think they'd rather have 1000 buyers of 100 points than 3000 25 pt contracts because there are less costs involved and more efficient. I also suspect we've seen the last of 25 point contracts but wouldn't be surprised to see the 50 pt option come back for no financing.

I would like to do an additional 50 BLT pts while I still can, but like ACDSNY I have to be ready to buy GCV when it becomes available.
It will be at least a year before I can think about more BLT and then, I guess I will have to see if I can swing it at the 100 point level...unless they make an offer I can't refuse in the meantime.

I am still in shock at how suddenly BLT was offered for sale contrasted by GCV which they announced a while ago and they still haven't started selling it.

It hasn't worked on us yet, but we're still waffling. Some days I lean toward going ahead and doing (at least) a 35 point add on, some days I think we don't need BLT points because we'll probably be able to get a room at least once in while, which is all we want... and some days I think I'll just add on 100 points when we're actually ready to go ahead and plan a trip.
