Did I receive an upgrade?

I was able to do my online check in for my upcoming Disney vacation, I am staying at AKL. There were several choices to choose from in asking what kind of room I would like. I had paid for a standard view room and from what I have been reading, it is a view of the parking lot. Standard view rooms are located in the front of Jamba House. In my choices there was a Kudu Trail choice. I went ahead and checked this choice. Does this mean I will be possibly put in a savannah view room at no additional charge? Did AKL have many savannah view rooms open at this time and they wanted to see if I would like to have this type of room? Did I make the right choice? When I check in, am I allowed to ask for an upgrade still?

That just asks you what any requests are. It is like any other hotel where you can ask for certain buildings or floors. You could get an upgrade but I don't think what is offered during on line check in means anything. Also if you ask for an upgrade when you check in, it will be for cost. The only way you get a free upgrade is if they move you there due to over booking or other reasons. Some rooms do feel like Savannah rooms but actually aren't as they are further away from the animals.

The check-in list is standard across all rooms. You can ask for anything. It doesn't mean you asked for a room you qualify for.

AKL does have some Standard View rooms that can see animals. Some mistake them for upgrades, but they were actually downgraded to Standard due to oddities of their view, like fences, people pens and mud pits.

Exactly!

Rather than an online room request, we like to call in a request to reservations where they can add more specifics. If you are interested in a partial savanna view, you could request one of those rooms that way.

Kudu was a great request as it does have several partial/limited savanna view rooms that are classified as standard view - good luck, hope you get one
