My DW was talking to member services today about our flight numbers for ME for our upcoming trip in May, and while asking about our location preferences at OKW, she was told that starting next year OKW will have preferred areas for extra points just like they do at Boardwalk and others. I know that you can only request certain areas and hope for the best, but I was not aware that they will be changing their system for OKW. Maybe the person she was talking to was mistaken or maybe I have just not heard about it. Has anyone out there heard anything about this change?

It has been discussed here several times. Disney announced that "near Hospitality House" was going to be a booking category, not just a request. There have been various reports as to when this will take effect.

The one erroneous aspect of what you heard is that there has been no mention of changing the point structure. Rather, it appears that they will use the same method as BW-Preferred which they split into two booking categories with the same point schedules.

If they are using it next year, it would have to be in effect now for 11 month bookings.

The HH booking category included villas in the area near HH parking lot as well as the Peninsular Road villas. I don't recall the exact villa numbers.

As granny stated I would not be surprised if HH cost extra points. That would mean they would have to be reduced elsewhere in OKW.

I also would not be surprised if the CM had no idea what they were talking about after the fiasco I went thru yesterday and today with banked points.

Hospitality House is already a booking catagory, and so far no additional points charged. That could change in the future if lots of folks make a big stink about it. I don't particularily care if I'm close to HH. In fact, I prefer South Point and even Miller's Road to HH.

As Diane said, the near HH booking category is already being used at OKW. It includes bldgs 11 to 14 and the Peninsular Road cluster across the bridge.

I really doubt there will be any changes to make that category cost more points. It would be a hassle for Disney to re-do the point charts...and hey, if we got this upset over no mugs in s Studio...:rotfl:

And like Diane, we prefer the Turtle Pond and South Point areas over the HH area anyway.

Actually, I was trying to say that there is no indication that there will be a point schedule shift. The OP reported that the CM said the HH rooms would be more points. That was the error I was referring to.

I think it's a good thing for OKW. Hopefully for SSR owners, that resort is next up for this type of thing. :)

I'm just curious because I don't know. Is it allowed for DVC to charge more points at OKW for HH bookings if they lowered points for the non-HH bookings to offset? I assume that they couldn't just increase the points necessary for one category (near HH) without offsetting it by decreasing points at non-HH.

I think they could if they really wanted to, but what would be the advantage to Disney or DVC? Of course, I suppose they could charge more for those cash reservations, but they could that even without changing the points.

The total number of points on the chart can never go up. So if they raise the required points for something, they have to lower it elsewhere.

Yes they could but I think it's unlikely they'll make any changes of this nature. It's not really needed plus it would be a nightmare to balance the points again.
