Did I Make A Mistake?

100 points is not a large contract and they're not easy to find: for a long time AKV had a minimum purchase price of 160.
Also, a smaller contract commands an higher price and closing costs are higher. With a direct purchase you also get all the member extras, which can be a good saving if you plan on buying AP especially. To get the same with a resale contract, you would have had to buy 75 points at AKV (even more difficult to find and more expensive) and add 25 direct.
All of this to say that savings wouldn't be huge and you would have had a resort you'd have been less happy at.
Don't worry about your purchase and enjoy your next 48 years of vacations at the Poly, it's a gorgeous resort!

Or am I overthinking things?

We purchased points at Poly back in 2016.

A little bit about us...it's just my partner and I. And its really only us 2 who are taking these trips down to WDW or DL.

When we made our initial purchase we were both on the fence about how to buy (direct or resale). We thought about it hard and its not something we jumped on or our sales guide convinced us to do because we were in "vacation fantasy mode". It's a large financial purchase and we take these sort of things seriously and make sure we get the best value we can. We requested information before and did our thorough research, but we never followed through.

Our options came down to Poly Direct or AKV Resale. (there was no way I would buy a 100 point contract directly from Disney for AKV, made no sense for the cost).

Ultimately we chose Poly due to the fact the contract was 9 years longer then AKV. And our contract length was really important to us as I found more value in that long term.

Dont get me wrong, we absolutely love Poly and we love AKV. I guess it comes down to the fact that I see a lot of posts (everywhere) about buying direct and how it's not the smartest way to go due to pricing/options. And it makes me think about the choice that was made.

Maybe I am just overthinking it...?
IF you only needed 100 pts, buying resale then retail 25 pts wouldn't make sense. If you prefer Poly and you will benefit from the perks, that's not an unreasonable option. For most, buying AKV resale would have been the best move financially if they were OK with either one.

Sometimes you can over think things and it gets the best of us. What really matter is -- you are using your contract to the fullest, enjoying your stays, still enjoying poly, can afford the yearly MF and loan if that is applicable. I think your value in your contract will hold steady especially with the significant increase in direct for poly - we will also likely see an increase in resale prince for poly. So likely at this point with having taken a trip or two -- you will not have lost much if any money. If you are truly unhappy with your purchase you can always sell - from what people say around here many people do not or will not hold their contract until expiration -- hense the resale market.

You could look at the what if -- if you bought AK -- you would have paid considerably less for the same size contract. Could you stay at poly on those AK points - likely, but now that Poly is sold out booking might become a little more difficult. If you had the money to buy Poly then you are fine -- If you are struggling to pay a loan on Poly then no it wasn't a wise decision.

You have to do what is right for you in your current situation -- you bought poly because it is what you loved and you wanted the extra years. End of story. If you really love AKV -- then you can always use some of your point to stay there.

The purchase decision is part emotional and part financial -- you want to be happy with the money you are spending AND you want to be able to afford what you purchased.

Thankfully the resale market for DVC is beyond strong (right now)- contracts are being listed/sold for upwards of $20-30 more for than they were just a couple years ago. If you are ever unhappy with your purchase - there is certain to be someone who will want it.

I purchased Poly resale and then did several direct add on contracts there. No regrets!

I purchased 2 small Poly contracts (60,90) and a small CC contract (70) direct. I will be purchasing 50 more CC direct in the fall. My reasoning is I purchase small contracts as I save the money to pay for them in full. I am also expecting my first child and want my 11 months at these 2 MK area resorts. After my next CC purchase I will begin saving for a resale AKV contract. I plan to purchase around 150 points there and alternate years using those and CC staying in 1 and 2 bedrooms at these resorts as my child gets older and using my Poly points for our quick 4-5 night trips we like to take every year since these studios are large. I don’t regret my direct purchase at all as the small contracts I purchased would not have had much savings with resale and we are already on our second year of discounted gold AP.
