Last month my family went to WDW for a 6 night stay. We booked late, and ended up booking a 1BR villa at Boulder Ridge/Wilderness Lodge (we were not DVC members -- paid a nightly rate through a WDW reservation.) On our walk to the elevators, we passed the concierge in the Boulder Ridge lobby. He politely (and thankfully) strongly suggested I review my trip plans with him so he could help with details/provide advice/etc.
Bottom line: it was the smartest thing I did on my trip. I'd happily rave about the various ways he helped, but most of that was fairly typical concierge services. What surprised me (and the purpose of my post) was he gave us an extra fastpass for one day of our stay, and two extra FPs on our final stay. We did not ask for it, but he helped us strategize our FPs during a very busy week to take advantage of the extra window.
I was so surprised and thankful that I asked politely if I was getting a special favor or a standard level of assistance for DVC members or resort guests in general? His answer was cryptic -- something about his job being to make sure we had a magical trip.
So my question to you all is the same -- is this a standard upgrade that concierges regularly offer resort or DVC guests who seek their services; OR was this an instance of a special act of kindness from a cast member? I know cast members often do the latter, but obviously I would never ask for one. However if this is something a concierge is regularly allowed to do, I wouldn't be ashamed to check in with one on my next stay to see if extra FPs are available.
Any thoughts?
