Did I do the right thing?

You saved soooooo much time and money, springing for EBCI shouldn't bother you at all.

EBCI for four of you equals one tank of gas in my minivan. How many tanks of gas would you have blown through if you drove?

Thanks everyone for your comments and support! Based on feedback, I'm going to register 2 of us for EBCI on the way down (my DD and myself and then have my boys registered in at the 24 hour mark.) I will be getting EBCI for all 4 of us on the way back for peace of mind!

You did the right thing! You won't be separated from your 4 year old and make sure to check in at the 24 hour mark and you should be good with the 10 year old.

We recently had our first experience with SWA on 3/1 during a large winter storm. Frontier canceled our flights without notice and seemingly a care about helping passengers out. We switched to another airport and Delta. Delta did everything possible to try to get us from Ohio to Orlando but were just not able to. They kindly just canceled our purchase of tickets. We then bought tickets on SWA. Not only were they AWESOME and they got us to Orlando safely. We bought the tickets 2 hours before the flight and were then bumped to an hour earlier direct flight. My husband was given B25 to board and I was given B41. We had many many options which allowed us to sit together. On the way back we had a connecting flight. I checked in at exactly 24 hrs before. We were A59 and A60 and A45 and A46. Many choices of seats together. We checked bag chairs we purchased in FL because of their generous 2 checked bags allowance. One didn't make it back. We received it 2 days later through FedEx. It was all a great experience. I just bought SWA tickets for my family of 4 for our June trip. We had planned to drive and are happy to fly instead.

People make SW boarding sound scarier than it is. You can either do EBCI or check in at 24 hours. You might do EBCI For the flight home only so you don't have to worry about remembering to check in during your trip.
