Did Disney ever sell lifetime passes?

Someone I work with just spent a month in Florida and spent an unscheduled couple of days at WDW. He said he had to buy passes which was really painful for him because sitting at home he has his lifetime passes that they have had for years and years. Huh? I think he's crazy - did they ever sell anything like that?

There's a story over on Deb Wills' site about the first family to pass through the turnstiles at Disney's Animal Kingdom. They were given Lifetime Passes to all the Disney Parks worldwide. I don't know if lifetime passes were ever sold, but I have seen similar stories of them being given to families as certain attendance milestones have been reached. I sure would love to have one of those in my wallet.

I'm reasonably sure the answer is yes. A looooong time ago but the practice was discontinued. I'm of the opinion that there's only about 350 still active and being used.

(don't we all wish we had one of those!)
Hope this helps :)

This thread is interesting to me. Years ago friends told us that at one time they heard of Lifetime Passes being offered. I never heard anything else about it. We would have loved to have them!! I would be very interested if anybody knows anything else about this. I guess that the DIS would be THE place for this info!! Hope to see some more responses.

I guess these passes are only good for the Magic Kingdom? I'm pretty sure they haven't been selling them since the other parks have opened and usually they make the passes only good for the parks they have at the time the pass is created I guess?

This was from 5 years ago.

600 Millionth Walt Disney World Guest Honored at Disney-MGM
Studios -- To blowing horns, a blizzard of confetti and a beaming
Mickey Mouse, a stunned 9-year-old Jacqueline D'Ambrosi of
Woodcliff Lake, N.J., was welcomed as the 600 millionth guest of Walt
Disney World Resort on June 24. During a ceremony at the
Disney-MGM Studios, the D'Ambrosi family was presented with lifetime
passes to all four Walt Disney World theme parks, including the new
Disney's Animal Kingdom. The D'Ambrosis were honorary grand
marshals during the new "Disney's Mulan Parade" and received a VIP
tour of the Disney-MGM Studios.

Wow! At 9 years old, do you think she will get her money's worth???? How cool is that?

WOW!!!!

How cool is that! I think I'd have to move close to DIsney if I won one of those!

I would certainly get my "monies" worth from them. :D

The article on Deb's site says that the pass that they gave out at the Animal Kingdom in 1998 is good at Disney Parks worldwide.

I always wish that when my BIG Derrier goes thru the Turnstile that its ME who gets those Passes!;)

My BIL was raised in Florida and tells the tale of life-time passes being offered to FL residents when the first MK opened. His father said that the park would never amount to anything and $100 was way too much money to waste.

They eventually became Disneyphiles and have kicked themselves over and over and over again!
