we had a friend who tried out and he was a great singer (i thought) and he did not make it pass the audition.

I know someone who has a phenominal voice, but didn't make it on camera. She just did the first audition for the producers. She was young (16-17?) and has a real problem with stage fright and presence. I almost think they took pity on her by not sending her on to audtion for the judges, or they didn't think she'd make good T.V.

I know someone who tried out for American Idol, but didn't make the audition. Her voice was defenilty good, but not great. :)

I do. Just this last season. She said she went into a huge room, with many other hopefuls and just stood at a table with some judges (not Paula and them though) and sang right there. She didnt make it through that first part at all. She said it was really really loud in there, you couldn't even think.

DHs best friend did. He was on TV for like two seconds (not actually singing). This was two seasons ago. He's got a good voice and he's really hot. But his voice isn't good enough.

Remember that girl who sang "I get my kicks on Route 66" a couple of seasons ago. Her mother was one of my High School teachers. :confused3

A co-worker's girlfriend tried out for season 2 and made it to LA- she got canned in the first round but her audition wasn't on TV.

Yes! A guy I grew up with - this past season. He made it past those initial rounds (that they don't show on TV), but you can see him on the Austin show coming out of the room with the judges and simply shrugging his shoulders and saying "nope!"

Very sad....he's excellent! He was (is?) working on a Carnival ship as a lead singer.

my daughter has a freind, a very talented young lady, who tried out last summer (at age 16) but didn't make it. I hope she tries out agin this year.

Yes, and he made it to the top 20 just this past season. :thumbsup2

He would kill me for telling you all, but several years ago DH tried out. He wanted to do it just for fun. He said it was a really long day and was exhausting waiting for your turn, but he enjoyed it.

They would go onto the field and audition in groups of three. He though it was pretty cool that Amy Adams (from season 3--with the pink hair tips) was in his group of three. She got through, but neither DH nor the other person did. He said that they were looking for something less traditional than he is. He said it was pretty easy to tell when they let people through for the shock factor of how bad they were as well.

Not that I know them personally, but two local radio morning interns went to an audition for kicks and didn't get picked. No wonder -- they couldn't sing to save their lives!!!

It takes more than being a great singer. They need to have a "spark."

In all honesty, good singers are a dime a dozen. Fantastic performers are hard to come by.

David Radford, aka The Crooner. He went to school with my daughter (he just graduated). She actually had his honors physics book this past year, and a couple of girls wanted to buy it off of her because it had a lot of notes of his in the margins! :rotfl:

He is actually very talented, I just don't think it showed on screen. He was too nervous maybe, or plus he chose a genre of music not suitable for the target audience of AI. :confused3
