Did anyone watch the HBO documentary 'There's something wrong with Aunt Diane'?

I just saw this this morning. I remember the accident, and remember it being upsetting - but watching this story was really upsetting. I just cannot imagine what Diane Schuler was thinking, or how it must have been for those kids in that van on that hell ride on the Taconic. On a good note, though - the news reported that the woman who lost her three girls, Jackie Hance, is expecting a new baby in September.

Just saw it the other night. What about the eye witness calls/reports of the folks to 911 when she was drivin' at high speeds in the wrong direction?

I watched it last night, so very tragic.
I think the husband really wanted the documentary to *clean up* his wifes image & convince the public that she wasn't at fault...I think he failed miserably, I thought it made Diane Schuler look even worse.
The guy is deep in denial & the lawsuits he recently filed are despicable IMO.

And what about the video of her walkin' into that convenience store? She walked perfectly normal, but I don't think it looked like she was lookin' for a pain reliever.

I'm not comfortable that the husband said she doesn't drink 'n then they drink on occasion 'n they don't smoke dope 'n then they smoke only to go to sleep.

I agree, it seems to me that he didn't know his wife as well as he thought. Interesting, well written (even though from 2009) article in NY Magazine http://nymag.com/news/features/62043/ - she went out for groceries and returned with a Jeep? She went out for milk and returned with a flat screen tv? I'm certainly no expert, but that sounds manic to me.

After watching the documentary I thought she absolutely had the traits of a closet alcoholic. Really strange circumstances surrounding the accident & Diane Schulers life.
So very sad & so many victims.

I "accidentally" watched it this morning. It was on in the background while I was checking emails and I got sucked into watching. I was particularly shocked by the accident photos of Diane at the end. I changed it quickly because I was afraid that they would show photos of the children and I didn't think I could stomach it. The whole thing is very tragic and I agree that her husband isn't helping any.

I couldn't watch it. The accident was horrific enough, and then the husband is making it 100 times worse filing useless lawsuits. And my sympathy for him ended when he filed against the bil. It wasn't an accident where she lost control of the car, or was hit. She was drunk and high and driving the wrong way. It was her fault.

I really don't know if I could recover enough from something like that to fully function.

MY MIL who lives in Westchester says the documentary (which was released right around the anniversary of the accident) has not only reopened the local "wounds" the horrible event created, it has made them worse. The posting forums in the local papers are apparently getting full of very, very hateful comments about the entire Schuler clan.

Everyone kept saying that Diane was a "super mom" or the "best mom" & could do everything....and this was so unexpected.

BUT, I can say that from my own personal experience with a group of moms that I have been friends/acquantences with for the past 5 years... these are the moms that go off the deep-end and crash the hardest. You can't do it all.

The family is saying it could have been a tooth abscess that made her do it. And that the medical examiner could have made a mistake with the toxicology results.

I know it's hard for them to believe she was high and drunk, but never say never. People we'd never suspect do crazy things sometimes. Who knows, she may have been high and drunk at other times, too, and thought she could handle it while driving.

I do wish they'd exhume the body and re-test if it's not too late. That should put an end to the family's concerns.

He is suing the state, claiming that poor road signage contributed to the crash.
He is also suing his bil (Diane Schulers brother) , she was driving his minivan the day of the accident. All 3 of bil children were in the van & died in the accident.

As previously pointed out, the state (saying the Taconic was "unsafe") and his BIL (saying the Ford Windstar Diane was driving -- which he owned -- was "faulty").

If that fails (which it will), next he will try to sue Absolut (the vodka she was drinking while driving that morning, the bottle was found in the wreck) and the dealer she bought the pot she smoked prior to or while driving.

When that fails, he will sue the owner of the campground she left from, her prior employers, the local Starbucks and the dog of his next door neighbor.

When that fails, he will sue...(you get the drift).

In the documentary, the husband of Diane Schuler hired his own private investigator into the crash. They had the blood/tissue samples re-tested, and the results were the same. They even went so far as to have the samples DNA tested, because the husband thought they were mixed up by the medical examiner, and possibly not even his wife's samples. DNA proved they were, indeed, hers. Now, he is looking for a medical reason she would have drank all that alcohol - such as a tooth abscess causing a brain infection and making her totally unaware of what she was doing. He even suggested that she could have drank the vodka mistaking it for water. It's sad to see such extreme denial.
