I tried my hardest but I just couldn't stay awake for ER last night. Can anyone tell me about it?

lets see what I can remember.

Abby is doing a rotation in the NICU, she disliked the obnoxious attending at the beginning, but at the end the attending told Abby she was the best student she had ever had...

I can't remember her name- but the doc that is a lesbian, who has/had crutches....her and her partner had a baby that had to go to NICU...abby did the spinal tap...baby went home...

Abby had to disconnect a baby from the breathing tube, and hand the dying baby over to the parents, along with the 5 year old sister. Baby had complications from birth and was in NICU...ended up with bowel problems, unfixable...

Geez, I must have been on the dis when it was on, thats all I remember...SORRY..

oh- Carter's having a baby??? I must have missed all of last weeks LOL

You got most of it but forgot the part about the immigrant Chinese parents of twins.

Chinese couple comes in, delivers twins. One is a big semi-healthy boy. His sister is less well and spends lots of time in the NICU. Cut to one month later and the parents hie off to China with the boy and leave the girl in the NICU, never to be heard from again.

Kari Weaver is the lesbian dr. and I had NO idea they were still trying for a child. They haven't used that storyline in quite a while.:)

Neela, the English Punjabi student doc decides that she does NOT want to go into neonatology as her specialty after she finishes all her rotations because she thinks that working in the NICU totally blows chunks. It's too depressing for her.

Did anyone notice in the scene when Dr. Kerri Weaver went over to where Abbey was working on her baby and then she cut the cord that she wasn't using her crutch? At least I don't remember seeing it. There was another scene too where she didn't have it. Then at the end when they took the picture she had it. I guess it caught my attention because I can never remember a time when she didn't have it, even when standing around.

Last night's episode focused almost entirely on Abby and Neela. Carter, Elizabeth and Kerry had cameos and Pratt was seen at the very beginning when the baby that dies is in the e.r. The one big theme not mentioned is how competent and together Abby became as the episode progressed. Besides the praise from the attending, Carter told her she was going to be a great doctor. Kerry's lover (can't think of her name) asked that the attending do the spinal tap instead of Abby, and Kerry jumped in and said to let Abby do it. Of course, she still has a long way to go with confidence -- she initially thought the attending was making fun of her.

that was a heartbreaking episode! Very sad.

I knew when that Asian family left the NICU with there little boy that they would not be coming back. The way the father pulled the mother away from the little girls isolet (sp?) and was eager to get out of there just made me think they were taking there baby boy back home.

That was a great episode but I wish this show would come on earlier in the evening its hard to fall asleep after you have been crying especially when your nose is plugged:rolleyes:

This was a great ER show. One of the better ones is a LONG time!!!
It was very tough to watch though, heartbreaking at times :(

I was totally shocked when Kerri & Sandy was shown having a baby!!!! I don't know when that happened but I guess no one knew at the hospital either!!! What a shocker!

I too knew that couple was going back to China, never to be seen from again. Kind of sad :(

Oh man I cried through this whole episode.
People on my floor must have thought I was nuts

I agree....it was a good episode. They hit on a lot of emotions parents of NICU babies feel.

It was tough to watch even though my own premie is 9 years old. Very much a tear jerker.

That's exactly why I was thinking it was probably better that I missed it

I knew the Chinese parents were leaving the little girl as soon as the mother admited they came to the US to give her a chance. :(
I didn't cry until Abby handed the dying baby to the parents. I was surprised when Kerri came in with her partner (Can't remember her name) and they had a baby. I must have missed when they decided to have a baby becuase I didn't think they were going to.:scratchin I wonder if Abby will decide to work in the NICU. I don't think Neela will go back to NICU though.

Just a thought about the Chinese family and the twins. Aren't there laws in China that prevent families from having more than one child? I wonder if that entered into the writer's mind.

A very sad episode of a program that I rarely watch.

There are exceptions to the "one child" rule in China.

If you have twins or other multiples (rare in China), you can keep all the babies.

If you live in a rural area and need a son to work the farm, if you have a girl FIRST, you can have a second baby to try for a boy. However, if you have the boy first, that's it.

If you have one child, but have the financial resources to afford another child, you may ADOPT another (but not conceive another child).

It is indeed a different world there.

Thanks for the clarification. It makes me appreciate my freedoms just that much more.

That was one of the best episodes I think of all time. I cried most of the episode. The part with Kerri(or however it's spelled) and her lover and their baby was so neat. I also enjoyed the brief moment Abby allowed the little girl to say hello to her brother before they took him into surgery. This episode will remain one of my favorites.

This was a great episode. I loved how the head doctor in the NICU told Abby what a great doctor she was. Abby needs a bit of encouragement.

I, too, cried thru most of the last half. When the parents held their baby boy Jake, I just lost it. I thought it was great how the sister got to touch her brother. Abby was just wonderful.

Once again, my kids think I am a nut for crying while watching TV shows.

I agree, great episode. Hard to watch though. Even though it's been 10 1/2 years since my son was in the NICU, I still remember the feeling.

I too thought it was a good episode. It was good to see an episode that wasn't focused on who was sleeping with who.
Is it just me, or is the dialogue extra speedy? I'm a nurse and I still have to replay my tape to understand what the heck they're saying, sometimes! They used to take their time and talk slowly while explaining what they were saying (I assume for lay people). But now, they run through the diagnosis as if we all just graduated med school:(
