It absolutely depends on the kids. My kids were 9mths, 5 and 7 when we went a couple of years ago. We took our single to AK. What a mistake the 5 yr old ended up sitting in the stroller holding the baby. The rest of the trip we took our double to all the parks. That being said the 7 yr old did fine and never wanted to ride or sit down. Last trip youngest was 1 1/2, 6 and 8. The two youngest still rode all of the time. We are planning a trip for this October. The boys will be almost 3, 8 and 10. The middle son still insists that he will need a stroller and will still ride at the mall if I have the double with me. Granted he is small for his age and wears orthodics for flat feet so I understand, but the oldest wouldn't get caught dead in a stroller at age 7 even with flat feet. Talk to you kids and see what they think. I will be doing the double stroller again (dh thinks that ds8 should walk, but why have him crying about leg pain or being tired). IMO the double really isn't much bigger than a nice single so why not bring it. It will give me extra storage if he doesn't use it.
