and urged my dd not to pursue a frivolous major. To instead take it as a minor, and take as many fun classes as you want, even if it adds an extra semester to grad time. I see college as preparing to earn a living. There is a certain element of exploring yourself and your interests but in the end as you make those student loan payments you want a job. I have alot of friends who work at fast food type places, wait tables, and clothing stores with degrees in psychology.
It's a bit of a peeve of mine that advisors don't talk about the employment possibilities of certain degrees. It does matter. If you are pursuing a field that is related to that frivolous seeming degree then they need to work with you. Get you lots of hands on experience in that field. Help you create a portfolio if applicable. And they should tell every psych major that without grad school the degree is pretty useless.
I have a highschool son who wants to surf for a living. I am encouraging him to find a way to make surfing pay. Or perhaps to take a year off to try surfing as a living (although this really makes me nervous)Or to take classes during the off competition season.
Tiggeroo ducks cause she knows lots of disers disagree with her. But I'm just trying to be a good parent.
