Did anyone else not use a stroller ?

so glad I am not alone ! PP you are correct I said I don't NEED to hear from strollers because this thread is not about convincing me they are OK(if that is your choice of course it is OK), I was just curious about those who like me thought they were more of a hassle. I could never figure out how to fold them LOL ! I did know how to use the nice big hips God gave me :)

I'm kind of shocked by this thread. DD and I are still using the stroller several times a week. We walk to the park, bank, grocery store etc. There are times she doesn't want in, but generally she enjoys seeing the world. It allows me some exercise, for us to get some sunshine, and for me to get some things done without having to drive.

When she was smaller we used the Ergo, but at 23 pounds I don't have the ab/back strength for long walks in it.

For those that don't use a stroller does your community not lend itself to walking?

I had a regular stroller, a jogging stroller, and a Kelty back carrier. I used the Kelty about 90% of the time. I got so good I could whip that off my back anywhere without tipping it over with a kid in it. :thumbsup2 I much preferred the backpack carrier because then you didn't have to depend on smooth ground. You didn't with the jogging stroller either, but that was huge and hard to take if you planned to go inside.

Sure it does. We enjoyed many walks with our young children. I was always very comfortable with my children in a sling or holding their hand while they walked by themselves. Now one place I would bring the stroller to was the grocery store. We used it to out the groceries in, and my dd loved pushing it home herself. Like a PP mentioned, the stroller was like a big walker for us. LOL!!!

I'm still trying to figure out how a 6 month old is strong enough to hold their own weight so Mom can have both hands free. Seriously?

WTH? Of course we walked lol. My son just did not like strollers. We carried him when he reached a point of being too tired, but that was after long walks. Heck, he still loves to walk. He is 16 and he walks our dogs all the time. It is not a one way is bad thing. We just didn't really use our stroller. My sister had twins and after age two she didn't really use one. They just weren't a big thing then like they are now. Yes, people had them, but I don't know many people who used them the way they do now for extended years. It is not a condemnation just a view of that we just didn't use them.

No stroller here either. Different generation; our baby is 30.

I used one with ODS. With YDS we rarely used it. I wear him almost all the time. We rented a double jogger when we went to WDW in December. ODS, 3.5, liked riding it in a fair amount in the park and actual napped but YDS screamed bloody murder almost each and every time he was put in it. I ended up pushing the double around with a bag in it and wearing YDS in the Ergo most of the time.

That's how the DIS forum is. A few weeks ago a guy asked for opinions from other guys about circumcision. It turned into many, many responses from our lady DIS members who are experts on the topic.

okay that's funny. Although, maybe some of us have experience with both from a different angle and thought the guys might want our opinion on what it could do for them. ;) See if I get points for this. :lmao:

And yes, I used a stroller - great for carrying other stuff along with the baby.

:lmao: I'm not sure why it's shocking. Yes, WE walked. DD held my hand and walked along with me. Your child isn't walking but riding along while you walk.

I used a stroller really only for occasional trips to the mall until dd was about 18 months and learned how to unhook the seatbelt and kept leaping out of it. It was easier to hold her hand after that. I was never a big fan--getting it out and setting it up was a PITA and it was always easier to use her baby carrier for quick trips when she was small.

We took her to Disneyland the first time at the age of 4. I'm always a little surprised by the threads about bigger kids in strollers at Disney. DD would have been insulted and appalled if we'd suggested a stroller at that point.

I have three kids, 24, 17 & 15, and I have used both strollers and slings. My middle child never liked the stroller, so I carried her for about a little over a year in my sling. It was never a problem for either of us. I loved that sling!

I have three kids (12, 6, and 4) and we never used a stroller.

The first one I just carried all the time. The second I used a front carrier/sling when she was tiny and carried her otherwise. Our third was huge (over 30lbs at his first birthday), so once he outgrew the front carrier we bought a backpack carrier (we used that thing to go shopping, hiking, etc). Honestly, I mostly just held them all the time. I held them constantly at home anyway, so I had no issue holding them if we were out. We joked for years with my family about me permanently having a baby attached to me.

The only exceptions have been Disney trips. Our middle DD was 4 and our youngest was just shy of 2 (but well over 40lbs and nearly 40") for our first big family trip. In reading all the comments on the Dis and knowing that we were going for 10 days, we decided to buy two Maclaren Volos. (We had taken our oldest for day trips and just carried her.) We used them for two trips and were very glad we had them. The little ones were absolutely thrilled with the idea that they got to be wheeled around the parks while they sat back and took in the sights. :cloud9:

I think we're all done with the strollers for good. We just went for 10 days again in October and we brought the strollers along, but they never left the room. The kids had no issues with the walking and it was nice to not have to manage the strollers on the busses and worry about parking/finding them while in the parks.

We rarely used ours. I rarely hit the mall so I don't think I ever did that with either kid at least until they were older. I remember taking to the zoo a couple of times, but once they were a little bigger we used a wagon more than a stroller.

I had to laugh at this one, I just told my soon to be 18 year old just yesterday while at the mall that I think my love of just walking the mall ended when the stroller days were done. They were heaven for putting all my stuff in. My first 2 were 18 months apart so we had the double. I used that with #3 when the other 2 were walking all the time because I had the backseat available for coats and bags.

I tried the carrier with my first one and my back hurt so bad after a half hour that I was done and she was only a few weeks old. Of course I have back issues so that is probably why.

I do see a lot of people using those slings now...but still a lot of stroller use too. The strollers now look so much nicer than what I had over 20 years ago.
