Did anyone else get this letter?

I got a letter from Member Svs today "to reinforce the Company's policies regarding Cast Member/Employee discounts and conflicts of interest as they relate to your Ownership Interest purchased in a DVC Resort."

Huh?

The letter seems to be aimed at a Cast Member who is reselling, transferring, or renting points.

I'm not a cast member, and I've never sold, transferred or rented out points to anyone. (Although I have rented points from other members.)

I'm assuming this must be a mistake, and I'm going to call tomorrow, unless this letter, for some reason, went out to all DVC Members.

Did anyone else get one? :confused3 Thanks!

I didn't, at least not yet. Did you buy resale, if so, you could have bought a CM account? Or your points rental could have come from a CM. I'm assuming you scoured the online account info for any clues. Let us know what you find out.

I got the letter too. I am not a cast member and never have been. I bought all of my contracts direct from Disney. Who knows? Just another way to waste money. I guess Disney hates competition.

I got one too. :confused3 Maybe we are just some of the first ones to receive the letter. It seems to me like they are setting things up so that they can legally go after cast members who are renting out points for a profit.

I also got it. I posted a response on the CM board because I hadn't seen anything here.

Yes, my DH was a CM when we purchased in 2005, but he hasn't been a CM for 6 years. I love the part where they threatened to terminate him if he rents his points....whatever.

The letter was directed to me, the primary, even though DH was the CM. We have doubled our points since joining, but only the first contract was purchased with a CM discount.

My first thought was the companies that will rent our points for us. I know that some of the companies that sell DVC contracts also rent points, along with David's, so Disney is having issues with the "competition" it seems.

No letter here...yet. We are not CMs and bought all points direct, so it would seem really strange if we got a letter like that.

I got one two. I did buy resale about 13 years ago. Never been a cast member but got a good feeling getting a letter as if I was. To bad the letter was a bit on the negative side, lol.

Thanks, everyone, for your responses.

I'm going to call tomorrow and will post what I hear, but I'm relieved that others have gotten the letter and also been confused. It was dated Oct 27, so maybe we are just among the first to receive a general mailing.

Oddly, if it was going out to all DVC members, the letter only addressed the problems/penalties associated with cast member action - nothing was mentioned about buying or renting from cast members.

We have recently both rented points from a member, and bought resale points. I have no idea in either case if the seller/renter was a cast member. That may be the problem. In any case, I'll let you all know.

We got one too! I read it over and over...actually tried calling the provided number to ask "why are you sending this to us"? We are not/have never been employees/CM's. We bought both of our DVC's through resale. We have made reservations for others with our points and have had points transferred into our account. Hmmm.

Add: I DID just call the provided number....left a message.

Did anyone check this number to see if it is MS or just a phishing letter?

I got the letter as well. I was a Disney store CM but haven't been one in 8 years. What a waste to send to everyone unless it is a legal thing because they are about to crack down on the practice of renting points out. This may have been sent to scare everyone, not just CM's.

When you call, tell them " Great! I guess my application has been accepted. What area will I be working in? " :)

It's just those annoying bean counters at it again. Sounds like Claire's making a push to encourage more sales and less renting...

If so, What she may not realize is that a number of us, by renting DVC, were convinced buying into DVC was the way to go.

This is so true. While we bought back in 1993, just today I was talking to a friend who really likes Disney, but isn't sure about DVC. I suggested he rent points and stay at a DVC resort to see the difference between that experience vs his typical stay at a Disney hotel.

As promised, this morning I did call Leigh Anne Nieman, the Director of Business Standards and Regulatory Affairs, who sent the letter. I left a message with the woman who answered the phone asking that someone call me back to explain why we received this thing. Whether or not I ever hear back from someone is anyone's guess, but if I do, I'll post the response.

I have been told by a member of mine that she called to complain about receiving such a "nasty letter without cause" but was told that their lines are completly flooded and it will be several days before anybody can get back to her. So, add that additional cost to the balance sheet too.

If you got the points with the cm discount, could you still be legally bound to the terms? I've heard that you can't sell points received with a cm discount for a profit.

We got this letter today. No one in our family has ever been a CM and we have never rented points or bought points from a CM. I called the number on the letter and left a message since no one live picked up.
