the email heading starts with
important changes to access your SS
when I opened it--maybe I shouldnt have opened it I didnt click on the link inside the email
anyways theres no name it just starts with soon youll have to sign up to get a new log in
with login.gov or IDme I never heard of either of these
besides the link telling you to log into your account
the email also tells you to go to the website Im assuming its the ssa.gov their talking about
from there sign in with your user name--which will then direct you to sign up with login.gov
just seems so strange
I havent gone to the ssa.gov website yet
just seeing if anyone else got this
thanks
interesting I just checked my DH email account and he didnt get this email-unless they sent them out on different days
but if the SSA wanted you to change your log in wouldnt the emails all go out on the same day

I did not get that email.
I can't remember the last time I signed into my SS account. I get paper mail from SS anytime there is a change or update but haven't received any of that either.

Yes. Social security logins are now through login.gov or ID.me. DH just started getting SS, and he had to recently login through login.gov, using the same username and password he had already set up. I have an ID.me account so I can use that.

In general, always be leery of emails like that, and don’t click links. Having said that, there IS info on ssa.gov about switching to login.gov for accounts started before 9/18/2021.

Re emails, no, I don’t think they would send them out all at once. Even though it’s probably not that hard to SEND a bunch of emails, getting a lot of replies all at once would be hard on the servers and any personnel who have to support the changes.

I didn't get it but the last time I went to my SSA account I was encouraged there to change to Login.gov (which I already had from getting my global entry card) and did so at that time. I've seen several news articles about this since then. I still wouldn't follow a link. I'd go to my ssa account myself to make the change. (If you don't already have an account, there shouldn't be a change needed.)

My husband & I both got that email. I wasn't about to click the link without verifying first that it was legit. I logged in to my SSA the way I normally do and there was a message about the transition to login.gov.

I had never heard of this before I saw this thread. But thank you to the original poster. I'm glad I did it now, before I needed to check something on SS and got confused trying to sign in. All set up now.

I got it too. Thanks to the original poster and others for their replies for confirming it’s legitimacy as I too was wondering!

Yes, I got it. Did not click on the link....figured I'd check by just going to the website directly and seeing what they say.

Yes, I got it. Login.gov is a new site for the federal government for many different systems. Since I am a federal employee, I've already had to start using it for other systems I access like my retirement or some other health benefits. It's legit.

Sounds legit. With any email if you just point your mouse at the link of the sender (DON'T click on it .........just point), you can see the email address it came from. Fake emails are usually sent from a gmail or non-govt account and are really obvious.

You can also do nothing and just ignore it. If this relates to some sort of change they are doing relating to logon procedures, the next time you go to access your account, there will likely be instructions on their website of what needs to be done. I have some seldomly used websites and the only time I notice something has changed is the once/twice a year when I access them to view my information.

In general I do not click on links, too many scams, instead I open a separate window and go into my account independently to see whats up.
