Hello out there!

I am in need of help....

My almost 4 mo. old son is experiencing diaper blow outs. The pressure is pretty powerful (which doesn't help). He's squirted out the sides or/and his back these last couple weeks. I recently bought Pampers, thinking they'd absorb stuff quicker, but he still manages to leak out.

Here's what I've done so far:

* purchased size 2-3 Pampers 14-22lbs size (DS is 17lbs. now)
* cinched the waist a little tighter, make sure there are no gaps in the legs, and that the ruffles are out.
*change him frequently (between 30 and 45 minutes; I do this any way.)

Any ideas or suggestions? would rubber pants help him?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

AH. I remember diaper changing all too well. I'm out of that stage now, have moved onto to talking back and disobeying. :sad2: Anyway.........I think his diaper size is too big. If he's 17 pounds, and he's wearing a diaper that is 14-22 pound range........what's the range on the size BELOW what he's wearing?? I bet 17 pounds is in there somewhere.

I used to double up diapers if we were going out when I knew DS's hadn't "gone" in awhile. That might help.

I'd like to recommend plugging his booty up. ;) Which Pampers did you try? The Baby Dry ones don't soak up the liquid as well as the one with the mesh liner. Another option, is just try different diaper brands. Each kid is built different and some diapers will work better on different kids. :confused3

Diaper blow outs stink. I hope you solve your problem.

go up a size. Seriously when that start.. you just need a bigger diaper. Dont EVER trust the "weight size" on the package!!

this was probably true when your ds was in diaper.. but I can say in 6 yrs I've been buying diapers the "sizes" have gotten SMALLER! I had some left over from when my first was born (okay okay I was saving them because I'm a freak like that) and I held the diapers from 6 yrs ago up to diapers of today... both size 4's pampers.. the size 4's now are more like size 3's and the size 5's are size 4's... :headache:

We had such a bad time w/disposables that we switched DD to cloth in her first month of life. We still use cloth, and it has worked much better than the disposables ever did for us. We use Fuzzi Bunz and Happy Heiny diapers. Both have held up very well. Their resale value is also quite high believe it or not. Using cloth isn't as gross as you'd think, either:thumbsup2

Hi!

I never had too big of a problem with DS blowing out of the diapers, at least up the back. He often had problems on the sides.

I got him out of Huggies for that reason, we now use Pampers Baby Dry and I like them the best. My DS is 21lbs and we are finishing up our size 3 box and he has been in them for about a month and half now. When he was 17lbs we were already in the size 3's.

I'd move up a size and I would try different brands. Which Pampers are you using?

baby potty training? ;) :rotfl:

Or try going up a size, or trying another brand? :flower3:

Cloth is always an option, that's what we did with DD. I used the motherease brand with her, but that was a while ago, I don't know what's out there for newer ones.

 up a size huh? :scratchin:

:sad2: i hope we don't run out of diaper sizes by the time he's 12mo.

when that would happen with mine, we would move up a size, no matter what it said on the package. if it doesn't help, well, he'll be in that size soon enough so not a waste. it worked every time for me.

good luck! and blech. I feel your pain.

Don't worry. You can always have your 1 year old wear Depends. :rotfl: Is your baby breastfed? Because BF poop seems to be much runnier, and more explosive, than formula poop. That's why we used the mesh Pampers, to soak up the runny poop. I don't think you can completely stop diaper blow outs, but you can keep them to a minimum. (This is from the woman who's daughter had a diaper blow out at the GF. I found my baby eating her own poop.)

DS used to have blow-outs no matter what I did with diapers. As I later learned, he was lactose-intolerant and nursing him when I had had cheese or milk was making some nasty poops. I just learned to pack extra diapers and clothing any time I went out.

With DD, I assumed from the get-go that she was lactose-intolerant also (she is). The only time I had recurring leaks/blowouts with her was when she was in the wrong size of diaper. Usually, when she needed to bump up to a larger size.

Don't be afraid to try different brands since there are differences on fit. My favorite generic brand was Walmart's White Cloud diapers.

::yes:: Just went through this with Mason - get the next biggest size! Also try Huggies - they seem to absorb better than the Pampers Baby Dry.

hmmm, never thought bf milk would make a difference either
you'd think after thee older sibs for this kid i'd figure things out. :headache:

wouldn't it be economically dreamy if you could get one package of 3-4 different brands to see if one was better than the other, instead of buying a whole package of just one?

I went up a size, and then started having her wear the diapers lower (like right around her hips). That created a "gap" between her and the diaper that acted like a bowl. If the crotch of her diaper was pulled up to her bottom, she would blow out frequently, but if the crotch was a few inches away from her bottom, it would hardly ever happen.
