diapers and formula and wipes...oh my!

We're headed down in April (by plane) with twins infants so we'll need a lot of "stuff." I'm thinking I can either fill a suitcase with the diapers, formula, wipes, baby food, etc. and use Magical Express (and hope it arrives safely) or else I can order all of this stuff through diapers.com or cvs.com and have it shipped directly to the Wilderness Lodge in advance. I could also ship it myself and request a signature upon delivery to ensure it has arrived. Using a grocery service would be another option.

Any thoughts or experiences?

Without a car rental I am concerned about not having what we need.

I suppose DH or I could also take a cab to Walmart if we were really stranded, but that is not how I would like to kick-off a vacation.

Diapers(dot)com. I used them for a trip last year just gave them the hotels address with our name and confirm # on it and it was there when we got there. The hotels will hold stuff I think for one week before you arrive so just order it the week before you leave. It is free shipping on over 50.00 I think but with twins that is not a problem for you!

I would ship items ahead vs. wasting space in a suitcase. For your formula and every day items (bottles, cereal, bibs) why not buy them yourself and ship that to your resort in a flat rate box? It may be cheaper than the grocery service.

Just make sure to pack enough of your consumables in your carry-on for the journey down. Who are you flying? I read on airtran's website that parents of small children are allowed an extra carry-on to accomodate the needs of the baby. May be worth looking into with whatever airline you are flying.

I'd like to make a couple of other recommendations too. BUY EVERYTHING YOU CAN IN DISPOSABLES! Bibs, changing pads, sippy cups, flatware, etc. that way you don't have to lug around dirty things all day in your bag. We used the playtex drop in system with our 6 mo old on our trip and it made things so easy. We took 2 bottle shells and 4 nipples. We took 1 shell and 2 nipples into the park and swapped them out at break. We also took our bottle brush and a bottle drying rack with us to help keep things clean.

The disposable sippy cups were a God-send! (4 packs, generic, run about $2.19 here). We use 1 per day per kid and toss them at the end of the day. (We would only put water/flavored water/juice, milk we would get from food places).

I would price out your different options as far as diapers go. I like the idea of using diapers.com to ship an order to your hotel, really glad to know this works with some success!

Visited the Wilderness Lodge for a week at the beginning of January with our just turned one year old and a three year old. We used Jet Set Babies, and it worked well for us - but perhaps more expensive than packing our own box and shipping it personally. We didn't want to have too much luggage, and in retrospect still feel like we made a good decision.

I have twin boys who just turned one and we are headed to Disney in March. I would not recommend that you bring the diapers/wipes/formula with you on the plane! As a fellow parent of twins, I think you will want to do whatever you can to make your travels as "light" and easy as possible You will have enough to worry about juggling your twins, your baby gear, and luggage with just your clothes!

We are staying in a villa so I plan to use a grocery service (prob. Garden Grocer) because we would like to order some groceries as well as diapers, wipes, etc. However, if you're not staying in a villa with a kitchen and don't plan on ordering any groceries, it would probably be cheaper for you to ship a box down in advance or order from diapers.com or similar.

Some of the resorts charge a handling fee for boxes - however I *think* it's just the resorts that frequently hold conventions.

We have 3 kids and we've been travelling with them since they were infants, so we've done this a few times. We order diapers, wipes, water, milk, baby food, snacks (for baby and everyone else), etc from gardengrocer.com. Sometimes we also order baby shampoo and sunblock from them. My youngest was on special hypoallergenic formula, so I had to order that directly from Enfamil, but if GardenGrocer had carried his formula, we would have ordered that from them as well. They delivered everything to bell services at our resort, then we called bell service once we checked in and they delivered it to our room.

We will be using Garden Grocer again this spring. We're done with formula (and hoping to be out of diapers ) by then, but we'll still be using them for water, milk, breakfast food, snacks, etc.

Also, keep in mind that in a pinch, you can get diapers, wipes, etc at the resort shops.

I shipped a box ahead of time with diapers, wipes, formula and various fingers foods...fruit cups, etc. It was so nice to be able to buy all my own brands, wither on sale or with coupons, and ship it down. I got a confirmation that it was delivered and it was waiting for me when I checked into POFQ. Since it was all disposable stuff, I didn't have to worry about packing it for on the way home.

This is exactly what we do too! I put some in our diaper bag that we will board with, enough for trip down plus emergency and ship the rest....I have done this since our first trip with little itty biddies, and has worked great everytime. I usually decorate my box so its easy to spot, so when I check in I give a quick description to make hunting in storage area easier for the front desk.
