Diaper Rash Cream?

My youngest DD would get diaper rash so bad she would bleed. The ONLY thing that worked was plain cornstarch after every single diaper change. I filled an empty saltshaker with it and shook it all over her bottom, covering it well. It really does work.

The most commonly prescribed thing is a combination of 4 products, not all of them are available over the counter. You can substitute some OTC for them and get pretty close though. The four ingredients are zinc oxide (desitin), neosporin or bacitracin, clotrimazole (lotrimin), and hydrocortisone. Mix equal amounts of all of these. This should treat any cause of diaper rash. I make it almost every week in the pharmacy.

Boudreaux's Butt Paste has always worked really well for us. My FIL (great sense of humor) gave me a large jar of it for Mother's Day when I was pregnant with DD :rotfl: .

Several times while on antibiotics DS got diaper rashes (nearly bleeding) that Boudreaux's couldn't keep up with. My pediatrician recommended Domeboro. It's a powder that you dissolve in water then soak a large gauze pad or washcloth in, place it over the rash inside the diaper and let it sit for about 15-20 minutes. Usually the bad spots on his rash would clear up overnight and I could go back to the Butt Paste.

We started out with Balmex but it made the rash worse with DD (worked on the boys though) so we switched to Aveeno, I love it and heals most of DD's rashes in one or 2 applications.

I find that Desitin works bet on my kids. A&D and Balmex (?) are of little help. One of these days I'll ahve to try cornstarch as that's what my mom says worked on my brother and I.

To a PP, my DH also uses Desitin on his chaffed parts after a long day in the parks....shhhhh, don't tell.:upsidedow

Boudreaux's Butt paste is the best.
The guy who invented it,George, is a born and bred Louisianian and one of my late BIL's best friends. He and his wife are super nice. He sold the company but it's still made with the same ingredients.

Don't forget to consider that it could be the cream itself that baby is reacting too. I used Balmex, which is a beeswax based product because my kids reacted to Vaseline based products.

Whatever you switch too make sure it has a different base product then what you are using.

Maalox then make a paste of cornstarch and water. I kid you not, it works!

I'm fighting a heck of a diaper rash right now on my 5 month old - Desitin is the only thing that would touch it.

I second the Desitin. That always worked with DS4 when he was a baby. Still works now when he winds up with a rash around there.

The best solution to diaper rashes that I have found is using cloth diapers. They are wonderful and I never had to worry about a diaper rash after using them.

Once again thanks everyone!

I bought some Desitin and some Butt paste and boy is that paste stinky!!! hahaha!!

Triple Paste or Boudreaux's Butt Paste

Same here, especially Triple Paste. Here, you have to ask a pharmacist for Triple Paste (no idea why). So, on the occasion where I've needed it and the pharmacy was closed, I've bought the Butt Paste. It works almost as well, but the color turns me off a bit. :rotfl:

I used cornstarch too. It drys it up if it was a bad one. For milder ones, anything that had zinc.

Actually once in while my kids who are older get sore bums from no wiping good enough. That is what I use now. ( the Zinc cream)

I also like the Desitin, but you have to make sure you get the original. It's nasty and sticky, but as our Nurse Practitioner says, "That's the point." The creamy one just "melts" off. Make sure you dry the baby's bottom before you put the ointment on. Another tip from our NP, even the sensitive wipes can be too much with a rash. Get the soft paper towels (viva?) and get them wet. We have done this with both kids (super sensitive skin), and it works.
