Diaper bag as 'personal item'?

I was wondering whether SW considers a diaper bag a personal item. There will be 3 adults and a lap infant but 2 adults will have carryon bags and the infant will have a small backpack full of plane activities. I am wondering whether I can also take a diaper bag or whether I need to convince Grandma to throw a few diapers and some extra clothes into her carryon.

I have a carry on bag that is large enough to fit all of my personal stuff as well as my babies - just because I don't want to carry too much. Don't forget, it is one bag PLUS the personal-type item. So if you have only on bag, the diaper bag can count as your personal item.

From SWA website:

Per TSA regulations, carryon items are limited to one bag plus one smaller, personal-type item.

The following items are not considered carryon bags or personal-type items and are not counted against the “one-bag plus one personal-type item” limit:

A child restraint device for a child who has been ticketed, who has a seat reserved, or for which complimentary, available space exists.

Assistive/mobility devices for individuals with a disability. There is no limit to the number of assistive/mobility devices a Customer can bring onboard the aircraft.

Outer garments or other wearable articles of clothing.

Food for consumption during flight contained in disposable packaging.
Walking canes or umbrellas.

I'm not positive, but I think only ticketed passengers have any carry-on allowance at all. You might want to check with the airline before counting the backpack as the baby's carry-on.

It depends on how many bags you have to carry on. With 3 adults, you'll be able to bring on 6 bags - 3 that will fit in the overhead bins and 3 that will fit under seats. As long as you stay within those parameters, you can bring the diaper bag and the backpack for the unticketed infant.
