Orlando Theme Park news site posted today that the Diamond Horseshoe restaurant will be open after mid-March for an unspecified amount of time for lunch and dinner. Anybody been there? Opinions? The food seems similar to LTT.

I have NEVER seen that place open so I'd be curious to know too.

We have been there when they were open in the summer - don't remember exactly when. They usually open it when there are larger crowds, or around some holidays. They serve sandwiches and sides (at least that's all I remember).

We stepped in there one day while waiting to watch the FoF parade. I remember buying slushies of some sort for the kids because it was hot...But I don't remember there being a lot of choices available and it certainly was a quiet spot. Maybe one or 2 parties inside.

WDWmagic article does not acknowledge that Disney is calling this an "all-you-care-to-enjoy saloon feast." That is a major point to miss.

Disney official - somewhat confusing. Says all you can eat but....
- Starts with a salad.
- Cornbread on table to share.
- Main worded like you must pick one entree and it will have specific side with it.
- Dessert is choose a tart or a brownie.

We love to eat the turkey sandwiches at Diamond Horseshoe over Christmas week. But this new menu is just blech to me. :crazy2:

1) Ah, the Diamond Horseshoe !
2) We loved that place.
. . . cute "Western" floor show with dancing, singing and jokes
. . . audience participation on and off stage
. . . snacks, sandwiches and soft drinks
. . . nicely air conditioned, very nicely air conditioned, on a hot day
3) The labor costs became too much for WDW budget constraints.
. . . dancers, comics, other performers
. . . lighting and stage hands
. . . musicians
. . . waitresses, hostesses, bartendenders (for soft drinks)
4) They shut it down with little fanfare.
. . . Del Monte stopped its sponsorship, and it closed in 2003
. . . then, became Goofy's Country Dancin' Jamboree, and closed in 2004
5) Now, it is an overflow eatery for LTT, but only in "busy" seasons.
. . . busy seasons are usually Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break
. . . counter service and sandwiches for lunch - family-style dinner (same items as at LTT)
. . . recommended ADR's for either
. . . in most cases, not worth the effort
. . . during Halloween it is a "dance party" and Trick-or-Treat
7) WHAT A PITY to kill off such a nice attraction !!!!

NOTE: I got selected to participate before the show was canceled. I had a silly part,
but when the show was over, the banjo player let me take his instrument and play a
little blue grass. It was a cute little "jam session" with the other musicians.

The food that they are offering seems like it is coming from Liberty Tree Taverns menu. Who wants the same thing? Not me. Also, does Diamond Horseshoe have a full kitchen? I have stepped in there in the summer time to cool down, but that was it?

That picture makes it look really nice inside now. It's too bad they didn't go with a more upscale menu to match the atmosphere pictured. Add some table cloths & it would make a nice signature restaurant.

It reminds me a lot of the Hoop Dee Doo based on the picture and description. It is a shame to have the theater and the resources to put on a show but to have no show. I am sure that the performers are expensive and putting on a show costs a lot. Does anyone know how much it cost to attend the show when it was there? Or was it included with the other free park entertainment?

I wonder if they could create a show and charge prices like Hoop Dee Doo if they could make a go of it. I know some people leave the MK to go to the Hoop Dee Doo. If they had an in-park show, I wonder if people would pay. Maybe a bit different show with Disney characters so it would be different from Hoop Dee Doo.

As it is, I have little desire to pay a lot at a theme park to eat things I regularly eat at home. Turkey, ham, and pot roast are items we eat at home a lot and that don't seem very special. Brownies and tarts just don't offer the appeal as some of the other Disney desserts for the same reason.

Wow I got really excited when I saw it was reopening and as a table service none the less. But another all you care to eat restaurant? Don't think we need another one of those and the menu sounds completely uninspired for $30+. Wish they had at least taken the LTT route and did a regular menu at lunch time. So for now we will most definitely be skipping it

Yeah I don't really understand the menu here, especially with Liberty Tree Tavern right down the street. I know they are trying their best to squeeze more dining into MK so all the QS isn't as packed but I'm not sure I'll be trying this out anytime soon. Its too bad because the space is really fun, it could be something special.

Actually it is right next door to LTT and they share a kitchen, and with Skipper Canteen behind it. That is why they are so close, 3 restaurants share one overall kitchen area.

We've never been in there and will definitely give it a try for lunch if it is still open in October.

Back in the day (can't remember exactly when) you would register at GS immediately when entering the park for a 'time' to see the show during the day. It was a great little show (similar to Hoop de Do) and there was no additional charge. Before the show started you could go to the 'bar' area and order drinks and sandwiches to eat during the show. The performers were the waiters/waitresses. There was no assigned seating. We enjoyed it several years before it stopped - can't remember when!

Was a 'much' simpler time then, just like you made table reservations to eat at the castle (King Stephan's Banquet Hall) 'at' the castle the 'day of' your meal.

Columbia Harbor House is the best quick service on Disney property.

Man. Looks like I missed some of the golden days of Disney. Maybe they are working on some sort of time travel attraction where we could virtually experience the park at different points in its history. I'd also like to go back to the park in 1986. That was my first visit. Wow. Now there is an idea!

Thanks for the info. Sounds like it was a fun place.
