Diamond Celebration: 24 Hour Event @ Disneyland Resort May 22-23!

Hi everyone. I was able to see World of Color on Wednesday, and Paint the Night Parade and Fireworks last night. They were amazing! My friend and I were back at the park this morning at 5:15, and there were so many people, we were by the Opera House. Michael (fellow podcaster) probably got there around 5:30, and he was locked out of Disneyland until rope drop. Everyone that I saw was basically in a good mood. We basically headed to the store first, and I got a cool smartphone case that lights up when the phone rings or when you open it (I think someone may have posted a picture?) We did go to the DIS Meet at 10am, and there were less than 10 DISers.

I love the "new" Matterhorn (disregarding the whole sled style thing). Harold REALLY wants us off of his mountain! There were so many people! I ended up leaving around 1:30/2pm, or so (my wallet was stolen & that put a damper on things plus I had to go to my bank and get a temp debit card). Despite that, I'm really glad I was there at Disneyland these past few days. They have really done some cool things at the park.

Oh, my friends got the popcorn balloon buckets - different stands have different colors, and we all got the Fantasyland stein. Love it

We would love to know if you could take a pic of the stine and how much is it? My hubby saw a tiny bit of it on the news and wants one so bad now. Also how much was the phone case? I am so sorry about your wallet maybe it will be turned in to lost and found.

Thanks for the report! I'm so sorry your wallet was stolen. You have a great attitude, and I'm glad you still enjoyed being in the parks!

Disneyland Today's Twitter feed said that DL is currently not admitting any guests. That was posted around 6:05 pm. They closed DL to new guests around 1:50 pm today.

Is the "stein" the castle stein? It's $10.15 plus tax (so about $11). The castle is plastic. Sorry - no photo right now - but the Parks Blog had an entry with photo a bit ago.

So sorry about your wallet! I have been watching the live feed. Are people already camped out for paint the night?

Here is a pic showing both sides of the stein. With tax, it was $13.01

(Thank you for the comment about my wallet. It was one I had bought at the 50th, but at least nothing in it was irreplaceable, so I'm okay.)

My favorite is the phone case. I think that was $31+ with AP discount.

I'm confused, so even if they had capacity you still couldn't get into Disneyland unless you have already been in today?

Maybe go to DCA and eat somewhere.

Thank you Mary joe for the pic. Is the whole thing plastic? Oh and has any one seen the new book?
a celebration of new magic and fond memories? If so how much and where did you find it?

The whole thing is plastic. It has details in relief, though, and shows each land, but not Main Street. I also bought the book. It was $25 before discount. We got it at the Disney Showcase store (the one by the Mad Hatter shop, left side when you first get on Main Street). They had a lot of "60" merchandise there. They were also flying off the shelves.

They had pretty much sold out of a bunch of stuff, and restocked last night for today. I was told they get shipments in every day of different things, but they don't know what will be coming in.

Awesome thank you I wonder if the book will be on amazon. I would love to get it before the trip. Thank you for all the details.
I sure hope they still have some things. The Cinderella popcorn bucket, the wands (if i like what they look like) and the Stine's that's three things I want while there.

It's terrible that your wallet was stolen, Mary Jo! That would totally put a damper on any visit. I'm glad the contents didn't have anything irreplaceable, at least. Maybe there's a 60th anniversary wallet that needs to find a new home? :)

I like the way you think! I'm hoping they'll come out with something. All in all, I'm glad I went, and that I went early. I would never go to one of these events late because the crowds are just immense. I am hoping that Disneyland merchandising keeps ordering and keeps bringing it in.

One thing that was cool - the Mickey balloon popcorn buckets - from what I saw, each stand has a different color - purple in New Orleans Square, blue in Main Street, red in Tomorrowland. I saw the Cinderella bucket near Fantasyland (I remember walking past it). In Frontierland they have a Dwarves mine car bucket that says Disneyland 60 on it.

My friend saw Mad Tea Party, and she said now at the end of the show (last show of the night?) they do a tribute to Walt. She loved it. I was there for a little bit of the show on Wednesday - I really enjoyed the music and background effects, but didn't watch the whole thing.

Can you give more details on the "wands"? This is the first I am hearing about them :)

Holy smokes the parade looks awesome! Did you guys need sunglasses?? Lol.

Did anybody see the parade and fireworks? We saw it from the hub area near the plaza inn. After the parade it was chaos and nobody knew was going on. I thought we had good spot as the Matterhorn and the castle were in view. But they forced everybody on to the streets and off the sidewalks. A lot of people were forced back toward Main Street with obstructing views. Something to keep in mind for future visits. I think a spot right in front of the castle would be an idea location.

Mary Jo ~ sorry about your wallet.

I saw the parade from the teacups and it was so good. The group I was in on the ride kept switching back and forth w/ another group; no waiting and perfect seats. The lanterns on the ride change and go w/ the parade as well.

Watched the fireworks from tomorrowland. Wasn't able to clearly see the projections on the Matterhorn, but loved them. And the Matterhorn for Nemo!?! Loved it!

What a crazy day. I'm not there, but I'm following the party from Twitter. Not only did DL reach capacity earlier than expected, they are now telling the massive crowds hoping to get inside that NO ONE will be allowed to enter until 9am tomorrow, regardless of reason. In addition, a new report that they stopped serving alcohol earlier than planned. Traffic in the area is terrible. Lines are wrapping around the park exteriors. We are definitely not in Kansas anymore. :earseek:

Some have asked in other threads if anyone thought crowds this summer would be larger than usual, and if July 17th would reach capacity. I'm going to guess that the answer will be YES for both of those questions.
