My neighbor is also awaiting a kidney transplant and his wife has looked into dialysis on Disney cruises. He hasn't started it yet, but unfortunately, DCL does not provide dialysis. You could go with the kind of dialisys where you bring all the fluid bags on board with you (sorry, I can't remember the name), but DCL doesn't provide any such service.
Royal Caribbean has "dialysis at sea" cruises. Not sure if they're specific dates or not or if any other ships have the same. As was mentioned if someone is on peritoneal dialysis you could sail on any ship. It's hemodialysis that would be the challenge. It's correct that DCL does not offer hemodialysis.---Kathy
But it is VERY expensive, I read on a support board they charge $400 + per session (insurance/Medicare likely won't cover it).
Something to consider is starting home hemo using NxStage. There was large group of Nx Stage users that pooled resources and went on a cruise together. Nx Stage helped handle all the supplies, if someone's cycler broke they could easily change machine parameters and use another person's cycler.
Looks like everyone had fun and dialyzed without a problem.
My dh uses Nx Stage at home via Davita, it's awesome! He's doing a session while I sit here on the DIS and he is playing video games.. all in the comfort of our own home.
