Has anyone had success with creams such as dovonex and diprosone (sp?)?

My uncle has psoriasis. His dr told him the best thing for psoriasis is to go to a tanning bed.

I hope the creams help you.

I've never had any experience with this, I sure hope the creams help you.

That is the ironic thing for me...I am photosensitive, can't go in sun for long.

I haven't had luck with any creams. Of course, it's been quite a few years since I tried anything. I'm sure there are newer ones on the market. It doesn't itch, so I just leave it alone.

My godmother kept getting a patch of it on her arm. She tried the OTC Psoriasin Gel (they have a vanishing formula). It has coal tar, aloe and she said it felt nice and worked. The itching is the worst part and it helped her. I hope you find some relief too.

M:cool:

A friend of mine has been dealing with this for all of her 34 years. For 18 years she tried every cream and lotion available, finally the Dr sent her tanning (it was actually at his offeice) and this has helped more than anything.

I've had psoriasis since I was a baby. When I was pregnant with DS 10 years ago, it got MUCH worse...gotta love hormones. Since then, I've had some luck with lotions and ointments. Right now I am on Diprolene and it works ok. I also have an OTC tar ointment called MG217 that I've also had good luck with. The horrible thing about psoriasis is there is no cure...once you have it, you have it. It may go into "remission", but you can always get a flare up. I do know that some treatments work great for some and not for others and what works at first can stop working. Some people have to rotate their treatments going from one medication to another when the first stops working only to return to the original one again eventually for some more success...if that makes sense. I was lucky as a child, I only had small spots. Now most of the time my knees are covered and it looks as though I've skinned my knees. All summer I have to explain "what happened to my knees". I have it other places too, but the knees are the most noticable. I don't know if your doctor informed you, but people with psoriasis have a better than not chance of developing arthritis...sorry.
Good luck and if I can help with questions, let me know.

I know that this is an older post, but my ds has had psoriasis for several years and the very best thing we have found, (after trying all the perscripion meds) was pine-tar soap. When it starts to flair up, he will just start the pine-tar soap, and it always clears up. He also uses the tanning bed, but I saw that wasn't an option for you. HTH

Yes, about 20% of people with psoriasis will also develop psoriatic arthritis, which can be quite severe. I developed tendonitis in my feet, which can be an early sign of it.

I will have to look for that pine tar soap!
