DHS - Why is the food/restaurants so "uninspired?"

When it comes to the counter service locations at Hollywood Studios I personally like ABC Commissary and Backlot Express.

I love Brown Derby (can't beat some soup, cobb salad [without egg] and a martini named after a Citizens of Hollywood character for lunch) and I love eating at the Tune In Lounge at Prime Time - David is a great bartender (neither of which might be interesting to a dining plan user, which is one reason I don't use the dining plan - I don't get labeling Brown Derby "no good" just because it costs two credits). Sci Fi is even good if you know what to order. I like Backlot Express and I like Studio Catering. The bar next to Studio Catering serves the best pina coladas - even though they come out of a machine. Star Wars Weekend for me means carrying a pina colada over to Backlot and watching the Star Wars parade from there.

Starring Rolls is great on the dining plan - unless you're a kid. All they have for kids is Uncrustables.

I'm sure the OP means there are no good choices at Studios for her and her family under their circumstances, not that there aren't any good choices.

The problem dining plan users will have is that there are not a lot of great DDP choices, at least for counter services, at the neighboring resorts either.

I consider MK to be the park with the least interesting selection of restaurants. Different strokes.

Only because it's more expensive or costs more credits for DDP. I'm really referring to 1TS restaurants or CS restaurants.
It seems a bit unfair to say Pecos Bills is "inspired" compared to anything at DHS and that AK has endless options, but then to exclude the best park restaurant on the DDP for requiring 2 credits. This seems to be more of a DDP issue than a DHS one.

I love HBD- of couse we don't use the dining plan so the number of credits don't matter- but I love the cobb salad. I also enjoy the tune in lounge for a quick bite (I don't think they are on the plan as well- although you can get the same food at 50's prime time). Starring rolls has some amazing snacks/desserts. While it seemed expensive to me the food at ABC commisary had actually improved greatly when I was there a couple of months ago.

I agree.

We didn't do the DDP on our trip (we did get the Tables in Wonderland card, which was fabulous), and we went to HBD. Delicious! We're vegetarian, so we're pretty limited there but what we had was great. DH and I shared their tofu noodle bowl; they split it in the kitchen, and even though it *looked* like a small portion (they put it in an ENORMOUS bowl) it was very filling. And so so so so SO good. I mean, SO good. We also shared an appetizer, some mushroom ravioli thing, I think, and that was good too, but once we tasted the coconut-crusted tofu, we forgot all about that appetizer LOL.

If we were on the DP, we'd just pay OOP for that meal again...it's not worth 2 credits, but it's worth paying for, that's for sure!

My friend is vegan and she had the tofu noodle bowl at Brown Derby, she let me try some, and it's really tasty. Vegetarians and vegans should take note of that. It's a big bowl, she couldn't finish it and I couldn't help her finish it after cobb salad.

They were also really good about letting her know about ingredients. They cut the ingredient list off a bag of gluten free rolls and brought it out so she could read it.
