I wanted to get a little trailer so I could go camping, and not in a tent.

But my Dad said no. He said it takes balls to tow a trailer on the highways.

And here I thought he was being sexist!

No, we are talking about balls. Some do have two, one big one for the trailer and one little bitty one for the sway bar. You should also check that they are clean and tight. It is also helpful to have a light coat of lube on them to make hitching up easier. But if you do its nice to have a cover for when you unhitch so you don’t get any on your legs.

This is all very good towing information. It makes you realize that those balls in your hitch no matter the size are very important and if you don't use them properly it could change your life and others. Safety first read the ball size.

You need to redistribute the weight on your balls so that you put more tension on the front end. That should help reduce the creaking from the back.

You should keep your balls slightly lubricated, I always find it better for hitch'n up and the ride.

A spray can of lithium grease works well for that

If you're lubricating your balls frequently, you might need to get the super size can, though. You don't want to run out in the middle of a great weekend.

As for lube - we wrap ours with waxed paper, less messy that way.
