I have friends down there right now and were waiting for the DHS opening and were asked to be the family to open the park. Since I have never seen it, what happens? I have been to rope drop but havent seen anyone open the park. Anyone know? Do they get to be that family that rides in the parade as well?

1. I have been to rope drop but havent seen anyone open the park.
2. Anyone know? '
3. Do they get to be that family that rides in the parade as well?

1. That's because it is not much of a ceremony.
Typically, they stand there and count backwards from 10 to zero and maybe throw confetti (or similar.)
2. I'm anyone and I know.
3. Nope.

We had friends selected to to this at DHS one trip. Honestly, it's not much compared to what the Family of the Day gets at MK. DHS doesn't have a parade, so there's no parade participation. I think they maybe got to ride on one of those cars with the Citizens of Hollywood.

That opening ceremony was discontinued a couple of years ago.

Yeah, it doesn't seem to be as big of an honor as being chosen at MK is. They could at least toss you a Fast Pass for TSMM as you'll probably get delayed behind the RD crowd as you toss your confetti and the stampede begins!

Anything to run the park more cheaply I guess

They dumped the Opening Shows and internal-park "holding areas" at Epcot, DHS and DAK to stop the "Running of the Bulls mad dash" to the super-popular attractions when they first dropped the ropes.

That worked very well for a couple of years.
Now, it seems they have new folks in charge (who may know little of the history of why they do things the way they do)
and now, the "Running of the Bulls mad dash" (on the days that they DO have an internal holding area) is back.

There is the semi frozen parade, saw it last year and thought there was a family with it
