DHs one request, sushi ?s

Sushi is my DHs only dining request. It doesn't look like we have a whole lot of options. We are looking at Kona at Poly and Tokyo dining at Epcot. We have park hoppers, so location isn't a concern. But we are on the dining plan (3 credits a day, includes 1 table service).

Which restaurant is better? Thanks!

The only sushi that we've found over the years that is any good is at Kimono's at the Swan resort. You could take the boat from the International Gateway at Epcot or just walk across the Boardwalk to get there.

I understand this isn't on the dining plan, but it's the best sushi at Disney.

Many folks like the rolls at the California Grill. To me they were okay for that but not great - they're just rolls.

I was disappointed with Tokyo Dining at Epcot.

My husband is Asian, and we know our sushi, as well as Japanese and Korean food. Tokyo Dining was just okay - ate there once and not going back.

Kimono's is consistently rated the top sushi place in Orlando.

I have to agree with happymommy. The only sushi worth eating on Disney property is Kimono's at the Swan. A distant second would be Morimoto Asia, which takes the dining plan (2 credits), but I don't know how ordering sushi works on the plan.

If that's your DH's only request, I would consider paying OOP at Kimono's and saving your dining credit for something else. Or plan on spending two of your credits at Morimoto. IMHO, the sushi at Kona is pretty gross. If you really only want to spend one credit, I would go with Tokyo Dining. At least the atmosphere is lovely and the service is very good.

I would tell DH that WDW isn't the place for sushi. I had it at Kona and it was about like supermarket sushi (made well in advance with hard, cold rice). If you can get good sushi at home go the night before, it will cost a whole lot less too and do some disney themed dining you can't get home.

Any of those would probably be good and close to what we get at home. But none of those options really work with the dining plan I believe.

Even at Tokyo dining or Kona, I'm not sure how sushi would work on the dining plan. Using one credit for 1 sushi roll would be a total waste if that's how it works.

On our last trip I had both CA grill and Kona booked. CA Grill Kazan Roll was amazing. perfect temperature, perfect texture, melt in your mouth delicious. But $26 for one roll was definitely a splurge (it was a big plate of food and complicated but still). Then later in the trip we went to Kona and I had a volcano roll. It was cold, like it was prepped hours in advance and was just brought out of the fridge, and the rice was dried out and hard. it might have been edible if it was my first sushi there but after the CA Grill roll it was a HUGE disappointment.

I have never been to kimonos but like I said before... we are doing the DDP too and I have adjusted my foodie expectations for a great time at WDW with what they are good at and sushi is just not on the radar. Like, I was tempted to try Sanaa but when I looked realistically at what was on the menu and having grown up in NYC and eaten plenty of indian food in my life and making a mean chicken tikka masala myself... I think I will maybe skip that one too even though it gets basically good reviews. It just seems like if you have a favorite ethnic cuisine where you know what REALLY good and authentic versions of it are that Disney is behind the 8-ball as their menus are generally designed more for mass appeal. JHMO, there are some very good food finds there and lots of stuff that is uniquely disney. I will have my kiddo so mostly character meals for me but my expectations will be set accordingly

Spiltsville has great sushi!!
California Grill also has wonderful sushi
I would imagine that Morimoto Asia would have some also, but I haven't been there yet

Sitting at the Sushi bar at Morimoto's is better than the table service you will receive. There are more options at the Sushi bar and the chef's will prepare anything you like anyway. Even off menu.

I don't think you could go wrong with either spot for good Sushi. Neither have disappointed us to this point.

Hi there, the best place I have had Sushi on Disney property is California Grill hands down.
Make your reservations based on the firework show and then you will get to see the fireworks from MK either at your table area or on the back balcony

I love Kona for sushi - many different rolls to choose from, reasonably prices. If you want some real authentic japanese cuisine, go to Kimonos in the Swan. They have wonderful sushi! It is delicious and reasonably prices.
I also have heard good things about Morimoto in DTDSprings - I made a reservation to go there for my trip this summer.

Kimonos, Kimonos, Kimonos. Every other place at WDW is simply vying for a distant second place. I enjoy the Kazan Roll at the California Grill for what it is, but it isn't Kimonos.

For us: Kimonos, then Morimoto, then California Grill. Yes, good sushi can be found in the Disney bubble! Will have to try the sushi at Splitsville since it's gotten a couple of recommendations.

I have reservations for the sushi bar at Morimoto Asia. Do they have an Omakase option? I am very adventurous in regards to the sushi I eat and will pay for it.

We were really disappointed in sushi at Kona's this summer. We thought the sushi roll packs at QS in Japan were better, but that wasn't saying much.

I also forgot, Wolfgang Puck Cafe has sushi and a sushi bar. I never hear anything about it, but the pictures always look good, what FEW there are. I think We are going to try it for lunch on our Disney Springs "non park" day. We leave in a few weeks

We have had sushi there - it's not bad! My DS favorite food is sushi, so of course when we were there years ago he had to have it! It's good - not as good as Kimono's but definitely good for real sushi.

Am I having a total brain fart? Which plan has three credits per day but only one of them a table service?

Isn't the regular DDP one CS and one TS a day; and the deluxe plan is 3 meals a day in any combination of TS and/or CS? (So a lot of people on the deluxe plan do one single credit sitdown meal and one signature meal (2 credits) per day.) If I'm not being crazy, then wouldn't that mean you have the deluxe plan and could then try Cali Grill and/or Morimoto's without worrying too much that they're 2 credit meals?
