We have every bug imaginable, but thank goodness for the adorable lizards who love to eat them!!!
We have "German Cockroaches" - the hardest kind to get rid of (don't forget to buy your Rid-A-Bug!).
Palmetto Bugs - the really big (crunchy) disgusting flying ones, but the good news is, you don't generally get "infested" with these - they fly in when someone leaves a door open (usually after dark). Rid-a-Bug takes care of them, too.
Honestly, I spray every other month and have never seen a bug in my house.
As for the ocean: Go to the beach, look around. See those thousands of people? They're not being bitten by a shark, why should YOU? (see my clipart below - I had an "encounter" with one, but he didn't bite me) The sharks hang out where fresh water meets salt water. Stay away from the inlets, and you'll be fine. If all the seagulls and pelicans are floating on the water, that's a signal that there's fish in the area - and the sharks aren't far behind. If the birds are all on the sand, no fishies around.
If there are sharks around, there will be a yellow or red flag on the lifeguard stand. If you see a green one, have a ball. The flags also indicate riptide currents, so check with the lifeguard to see what's up if it's not green.
Jellyfish: rare, very rare. If they're being washed up on shore in droves, there's a bunch around. If you don't see but one or two, I wouldn't worry a bit.
I tend to swim where there are others swimming, only because it makes me feel safer - in case there ARE things around, my chances of being today's "bait" are slimmer...LOL
I've been swimming in the ocean probably thousands of times. Out of all those times, I've only had 2 incidents, both minor. One was a jellyfish sting - painful, but no worse than a bad bee sting, and the other was when a shark decided to play "obstacle course" between my legs - but he swam away (and I think I walked on top of the water to get out).
So c'mon down, you'll love it here !!!
