DH's Job Interview in FL Went Well

I was thinking what would be my IDEAL retirement job, probably selling DVC, and moving to Celebration. I wish you luck and a great job!!!

Just don't forget about the boards and your dear friend Nephosaurus.

:bounce:

Barb--

I'm moving to Orlando at the end of next month. My DH is already down there and has started his new job. I plan on getting a job with WDW.

This has always been my dream. There is no-way I'm going to let any bugs scare me from relocating. LOL I'm not worried about them, we have them here in NC too. This is one move I don't mind making, I'm so excited!!!

Good luck :)

***keeping fingers crossed DH gets the job***

Happy trails~

Thanks for all the well wishes, guys!

DH had talked with his dad this morning about the job, etc. He said that my MIL's main concern is the boys and the snakes down there. LOL. She has a snake phobia. It's OKAY for HER to spend October to May in Florida, but not US! ;)

wdisneelvr, congrats on your upcoming move. If this goes through, DH will probably go down there first while I stay home and sell the house. :(

If this is all meant to be, it will be. Everything happens for a reason, and we are usually driven in the right direction, so I'm not worried for you moving to FL.

Heck, you'll save on APs since you'll get the resident rate. I'm so jealous!

It's easy to keep the cockroaches under control and OUT of the house.

COCKROACHES? We've lived in Florida for 14 years now and I have NEVER seen a cockroach! The most I've ever seen in our house might be a few spiders, but even those, are extremely rare.

We do have a pest control service that comes and sprays inside and outside of the house every 2 months, though, which might explain why we don't see these pests.

We have NEVER regretted our move to Florida from the NE US. Sun just about EVERY DAY and no snow! When we want snow, we visit up north.

Come on down!

We have every bug imaginable, but thank goodness for the adorable lizards who love to eat them!!!

We have "German Cockroaches" - the hardest kind to get rid of (don't forget to buy your Rid-A-Bug!).

Palmetto Bugs - the really big (crunchy) disgusting flying ones, but the good news is, you don't generally get "infested" with these - they fly in when someone leaves a door open (usually after dark). Rid-a-Bug takes care of them, too.

Honestly, I spray every other month and have never seen a bug in my house.

As for the ocean: Go to the beach, look around. See those thousands of people? They're not being bitten by a shark, why should YOU? (see my clipart below - I had an "encounter" with one, but he didn't bite me) The sharks hang out where fresh water meets salt water. Stay away from the inlets, and you'll be fine. If all the seagulls and pelicans are floating on the water, that's a signal that there's fish in the area - and the sharks aren't far behind. If the birds are all on the sand, no fishies around.

If there are sharks around, there will be a yellow or red flag on the lifeguard stand. If you see a green one, have a ball. The flags also indicate riptide currents, so check with the lifeguard to see what's up if it's not green.

Jellyfish: rare, very rare. If they're being washed up on shore in droves, there's a bunch around. If you don't see but one or two, I wouldn't worry a bit.

I tend to swim where there are others swimming, only because it makes me feel safer - in case there ARE things around, my chances of being today's "bait" are slimmer...LOL

I've been swimming in the ocean probably thousands of times. Out of all those times, I've only had 2 incidents, both minor. One was a jellyfish sting - painful, but no worse than a bad bee sting, and the other was when a shark decided to play "obstacle course" between my legs - but he swam away (and I think I walked on top of the water to get out).

So c'mon down, you'll love it here !!!

I got stung by a jellyfish years ago when visiting my DB and SIL in Norfolk. That was Virginia Beach of course. No biggie. It hurts, but I also got stung three times this summer by bees, and it was similar. I had a bee fly right into my nose and sting me. She got me good, because I couldn't get it out. LOL. My whole upper lip swelled. I looked like a teletubbie or something. :teeth: Seriously, it hurt so bad I cried like a baby.

For bugs, we have giant moths in the summer that like to hang out at night right by our patio door and wait for us to open it so they can come flying in. Yuk! Hate those things. Of course there are the mosquitos, but we are campers, so I'm not too bothered by bugs. As long as they don't take up permanent residence in my home and reproduce.

Hey, I put a picture of my backyard in the springtime on my signature.

We will be moving to the Orlando are in June. We've been there several times to meet with our builder. Everyone we've met has been so nice! A CM in a restaurant at the Dolphin even gave me her business card so that I could call her when we move down. She wants to show us the best malls! We are really looking forward to this move, especially since it has gotten cold here. It's in the low 20s with a single digit wind chill. I can't wait to soak up the Florida sunshine!!!

Don't worry, I'm sure you will love it there. Getting there can be a little stressful (moving always is). In the end, it will be worth it!!
