Last week I started a thread asking who lived in SE Florida, as my DH was going down there on a job interview.

Well, he's back after two days of interviewing and lunches and dinners with about ten different people in the company. He feels it went well. Their only concern, if you want to call it that, was how he would transition from having his own company for so long into the corporate world. Personally, I think he'd be just fine. It's me I'm worried about. LOL. Is he going to start working 10 hour days?

The next step is for DH to meet with the president of the company. At that time I'll fly down too with our two boys and check out the area to give my seal of approval--or not. BTW, the 7.5 year old is game for a move. He wanted to know if we'd still get Christmas presents if we moved down there. The 10 year old informed him, in a very angry tone, "Yeah Hunter, except down there, Santa wears stupid swim trunks and rides a surf board". LOL!!!!

I don't know, after reading the "snow birds" thread and the talk of cockroaches over on the debate board, I'm getting even more scared. :scared1:

How exciting for you!!!! At least your oldest isn't in his teens yet. When I was 10 my family moved from Michigan to Kentucky & it went pretty smoothly.

BichonBarb, I am so jealous! I would love to move to central/southern Florida. If only I could take my immediate family with us.......... I hope things work out for you, whatever is meant to be will be. The boys are probably at about the best age to make a move. I personally give you my OK to do this, as long as they have internet service in Florida, you are free to go my dear.;)

Good luck!

Well, there might be cockroches but at least you won't have to shovel snow.

Actually I have lots of coworkers and friends who live in Florida and love it. IT is one of the fastest growing states in the nation.

My theory on the debate board is to take anything posted with a grain of salt. People get a little heated over there and I just avoid it like the plague.

Thank you my fellow tag chicks. You guys are the best. Sniff Sniff.

Hey llebrekniT, did you see Elf last night? I LOVED that movie.

It's easy to keep the cockroaches under control and OUT of the house.

I used to use a professional exterminator, but I kept having to call them back...little guys sneaking in.

I since fired them, bought a 5-gal jug of Rid-a-Bug (no other brand does the trick, trust me), and spray inside and outside every other month.

No critters.

I've tried Raid, Spectracide, etc. None of them keep ALL critters out. Except Rid-A-Bug (kinda hard to find, but worth the look). Home Depot doesn't carry it, I actually found it at the dollar store once, and then again at a grocery store (Albertson's).

South Florida is beautiful, but get ready for huge electric bills in the summer (humid/hot). But you make up for it in Jan/Feb when you can open the windows. The difference between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale is like night & day. I'd never EVER even spend a night in Miami, but I'll take Ft. Lauderdale any day.

Good luck! I hope your family has an "uneventful" move, and everything with the job goes well.

What an opportunity for you! Please keep us posted. I would LOVE to move to Fl. Like someone else said, I will take bugs over snow any day. And from what I understand, cockroaches in
Fl are not looked upon the same way they are here in the NE.

:D Great to hear it went will, BichonBarb! I'd love to live in Florida someday.

:D Peblszzz, What is your concern with Miami? As you can see from my countdown we are headed to Miami Beach in a couple of weeks. We are doing two nights Miami Beach and five nights Ft. Lauderdale. Never been to either so if there is something I need to watch out for, please let me know :D .

What a wonderful oppurtunity. I am sure what is supposed to be will be. Good Luck

BichonBarb, yes we saw "Elf". It was pure perfection, IMO. LOVED it! How great was Will Ferrell? and James Caan. I want to see it again already. ::yes::

Glad everything went well. My mom moved from New Jersey, where she'd lived most of her life, to the Orlando area in 1984. It was fairly rural back then and of course there were the bugs and the heat but she was able to deal with that. The hardest adjustment for her was getting used to a new brand of coffee (she couldn't find "her" brand anywhere). She loves it now and is very involved in the community. When she comes to visit us now she has a hard time with the cold, snow and ice. Everything is relative.

Bichon Barb...............
Now, pray for me to get the call for the job I applied for at WDW.

Also.....need to clarify this............the cockroaches in Florida are called Palmetto Bugs. They don't sound as bad as cockroaches.....do they? They fly. Maybe they have both, but I don't think so. I lived in Orlando and Winter Park and never heard them called anything but Palmetto bugs. Can some true Floridian tell me and Bichon Barb if there are both?

Your move with go great and everyone will transition fine! I can't imagine kids putting up a stink about moving to Florida......it's wonderful there. I should have never moved back! There is ALWAYS something fun to do in Florida. I prefer to stay away from the ocean though.......jelly fish, sharks, lightning, ewwwwwwwwwww.....seen to many BAD things.

What!? FLYING COCKROACHES!?!?!?! Ahhhhhhhhhhh...

;)

Yup, the ten year old is complaining about the jellyfishes and the sharks too. I told him he had a better chance of getting hit by lightening then to be bitten by a shark.

Lewski, my fingers are crossed for you. Working at WDW would be awesome!

Well, we'll probably know for sure within a couple of weeks. If he does take the job, we won't need to go to the sales meeting in Malaysia, which I'd have no problem with. I wasn't looking for to the 36 hours it would take to get there anyway. BUT, I won't be happy about losing all that money we paid for the flights!

How great that your dh's interviews went so well. I'll bet you love living in southern Florida. Great weather :)

We lived in Miami for a couple of years and loved it. Not a bad drive to WDW:earsboy: As for the roaches, they're "Palmetto bugs". Does that make it better?;)

Glad your Dh's interview went well. If it were up to me I would be down there in a heart beat. Will keep my fingers crossed that all goes well at his next meeting.

The South Beach section of Miami Beach is great area to check out. There's always the famous Joe's Stone Crab restaurant too. Yum! You'll be fine. Have fun!:D

I came looking to see if you had an "update". Don't worry about Palmetto bugs, ocean creatures, etc. It is an absolutely beautiful place to live and you just learn to deal with these things. If all anyone knew about Syracuse was that it can get to -70 wind chill temps lots of nights in the winter, who would live there? ;) If the job comes through, you'll be moving somewhere terrific. If it doesn't, then you know your happy where you are and also have a fantastic trip to look forward to.

Unfortunately, Barb I think I'm getting a little jealous -- Possibly moving to Stuart AND you have those two beautiful dogs! (I'm a sucker for little white dogs).

Sounds great, Barb, and don't worry about a few bugs. Those short 10.5 hour days, after running your own business, may drive you nuts, LOL, having Rob home so much. Wishing you guys the best. :)

Consider yourself lucky to be able to move to Stuart. If there was a god job for me I would also move there. Now all you have to do is buy an oceanfront condo and you're set for life. Just stay out of the water, LOL!
