DHS Frozen -- I don't think I get it!

I will be there when all this is going on but my cousin and I only have 2 park days and had planned 1 morning at EPCOT and the other at AK with both evenings being at MK. I loved Frozen (I like Tangled better though...eek...shh...don't let anyone know!) and even though I would love to partake in the added activities going on it just doesn't work into our schedule. I seriously considered rearranging our schedules but it's not worth it. I do think it's great for the people who want to and can partake though! I am a teacher and have been a lifelong Disney lover. Watching my kindergarteners belt out the songs from Frozen makes me smile. It's probably how I was with The Little Mermaid, Lion King, and Beauty and the Beast. It has just started a brand new generation of Disney lovers .

I'll preface by saying I've seen Frozen twice. It was cute. I enjoyed it. I'm not crazed about it and really don't understand the hype. Also, I only have sons--11 and 13--who are not the least bit interested in anything remotely "girly". But I've been reading a little about the events at DHS and watched some things on YouTube. I have to admit I just don't get it.

The take along Olaf is a paper cutout on a stick. I guess it would be cool if your picture got chosen for the show. But in and of itself, eh.

Watched the "parade". It was a couple floats and a handful of CMs on roller skates. Seemed to last all of 5 minutes. And judging by the crowds along the way, I'm guessing people lined up for a long time beforehand! Hardly seems worth the effort.

Then there's Oaken's Post. Looks like some scenes where you can take pictures. Go ice skating if you want (added cost!). The "build a snowman" area looks small and not like much at all. Of course, there's also the line where you can join crowds of other people cramming in to buy more and more Frozen merchandise.

I know there's the sing-a-long. And maybe that's fine. My boys were never into that kind of thing, even when they were little, so no real interest there. And then, of course, fireworks---personally, I prefer Fantasmic!

So am I missing a Frozen gene somewhere? I just don't get the hype at all. Seems like nothing more than a thrown-together "package" in order for Disney to capitalize on the continued craze and rake in lots more money in a short amount of time. Which I don't blame them one bit--excellent business plan!

My only hope is that I can get on rides and see shows with less crowds in other parts of the park since everyone will be waiting around for this stuff!

Please tell me I'm not the only one feeling this way!

You said it yourself, you have older boys. If you had a 4 y/o girl who sings Let it Go, The First Time in Forever, and "Open Door Love" (I think its adorable when she messes that one up) non-stop as if she's auditioning for a role and constantly talks about the movie, you would understand.

The movie was fine to me (I'd take the Toy Storys, Incredibles, or Lion King over it any day -- but I'm also a guy), but I'll do almost anything to see her face light up when she sees Elsa in September (I really hope they extend the summer fun stuff!).

This post makes me smile!! Honesty, being at the "Frozen Sing-Along" today, and watching everyone sing together (however pitchy we were !), gave me the chills!! People from all different backgrounds, of all ages, coming together to have such a good time was so great to see!!!

Yes, you are right about this. I liked the movie very much and my daughter loved it and is always singing the songs. I'm just lucky that she is a little older than 4 and though she LOVED it, she does not want to be immersed in it when we go to Disney. If she did, I would get the Frozen Premium Package in a heart beat just to see her face regardless of what I thought. I'm counting my blessing she opted out. Now Beauty and Beast is a different story .

If I were going during this, I'd be in and out of DHS faster than normal and I'd spend more time at the other parks. This is great for small kids and their families and I don't begrudge them this. However I would just do other things.

I already skip things that don't interest me so why not this too? There's still plenty to do otherwise.

OP, there's really nothing to "get"..... if you had young daughters, you would probably be excited about it all, even if it appeared on the surface to be cheaply thrown together, kind of lame, a money grab, etc..... Sometimes you've just got to see it for what it is to young girls.....Disney magic.

I have an obsessed 10 year old girl, an even more obsessed 4 year old girl, and a 2 year old boy who loves Frozen too because his super cool big sisters do. I would cry (honest to goodness real tears) to watch my kids' faces during any of the Frozen events mentioned because I know how much they would enjoy it.

Alas...we will be there 4 days too late. Hence why I am waiting for my 60 day mark to open up in about 30 seconds to at least book an A&E FP+.

Watching your 3 year old and four of her best friends belting out "Let It Go", while wearing her Elsa costume and mimicking Elsa's exact mannerisms, in the movie theater, with looks of complete joy on their faces, is a moment that I will remember for the rest of my life. My 3 year old knows every song, both instrumental & lyrics. My guess is the most girls (& women) can somewhat relate to what Elsa went through, which is one reason why she's so popular. The theme about having to shove your feelings down, feeling like you have to be perfect, the fear of hurting someone you love, having to hide who you really are, not being able to be yourself- those are heavy emotions and themes that girls everywhere have experienced. This has struck a nerve with people who have fallen in love with Frozen. So given the fact that this movie has had such an impact on girls both young and old everywhere, leads me to believe that yes, if you don't get Frozen, you are definitely missing something. Or maybe you just need to be a mother of a young girl to understand, I don't know. No disrespect intended. All I know is that my heart broke for these fictional sisters, particularly Elsa, while watching the movie. Now, that being said, I've seen some of the clips from DHS, and I think some of the stuff looks cheesy. And yes, where the hec is Sven?!

I watched the show and parade via YouTube yesterday and I'm less sad the event will be over before I get there. I know these things are aimed at kids, but it seems kind of rinky dinky. I did think the Arendelle a Historians were funny. For a mid-summer hard ticket event,I think money would be better spent on a behind the scenes tour.

My kids love love frozen. I think this looks really small and rushed and basically desperate for Disney to try to capitalize.

How about they focus on manufacturing some more of the merchandise that so many of the kids can't get rather than spending time putting together half parade and ice skating rink.

OK...just reading this post has me tearing up. If I could be there in person watching my kids react to these events?? Ugh. Blubbering mommy mess for sure, LOL!

I know you don't mean to offend, but I would absolutely, positively love it if people would stop dismissing Frozen as solely for girls and something that only young girls connect with and love.

Both my fiancee and I (a 28 year old grill-loving and bowling male) absolutely loved Frozen and are sad we're missing the Frozen events.

I posted on the other thread that I would buy the ticket for the Frozen package if we were going this summer (we're not) and I have never bought a hard ticket yet for any of the parties at Disney. I would do it not because I like the movie but because my 7 year old daughter LOVES it. Even if I found the Frozen thing at DHS cheesy, I am pretty sure my daughter would not.

I can understand not "getting it" personally, but there clearly is some sort of magic formula Disney hit with the popularity of Frozen. It's wonderful to see kids loving a movie like this so much, and it really reminds me of my friends and I when we were very little growing up with The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast (and later Aladdin and The Lion King especially for me, haha).

It certainly isn't just small girls, but it seems to have a higher success rate and "clicks" with that demographic for sure. Just let them enjoy it, even if you're left scratching your head over it.

As for the DHS events themselves, they clearly were put together with very limited time and resources as an attempt to take advantage of the current hype, which I honestly don't think Disney could have predicted that the film would still have this strong of a demand this far after release (although the box office revenue over the holiday season was a big hint!). It's rough, but I do think that they were caught off guard.

Never did I say, "You can't like Frozen because I don't." My family happens to love the Stitch ride at MK! Boy, if someone wants to get defensive about being beaten up on....

I was simply trying to see if I'm the ONLY person who doesn't get it. If you do, great. But it seems with all the hype, there are very few of us on the other side. I intentionally started my post by saying that I have older boys and that's probably a big part of it. But even so, it feels like people look at you sideways if you're not over the top in love with everything that is Frozen.

And whether you love Frozen or not, MY OPINION is that Disney really cheesed out on these attractions, just to capitalize while they can. I don't blame them. They're making money hand over fist with this stuff and good for them. But it seemed like a lot of hype and not much follow through as far as the DHS events go. I look at the video of that parade and think, "Huh, that's it???" Five minutes???? The build a snowman area? They threw down a bunch of fake snow with some sand pails and shovels. If the little girls are loving this, great! I don't begrudge them going to any of it. But I DO think Disney could have done better.
